iOS 27.3 upgrades Apple Music in two ways, here’s what’s new

Apple Music received two feature upgrades in the iOS 27.3 developer beta released this week. The most prominent addition is “Selfie Sing,” a karaoke‑style video mode that lets users record themselves singing along to tracks and share the clips on social platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. The feature was uncovered by beta tester Aaron Perris and can be accessed via a dedicated “Selfie Sing” playlist. A second enhancement improves the landscape lyrics view: animated album artwork now extends into the lyrics pane, mirroring the visual treatment previously limited to iPhone Duo. The animated backdrop is available across all iPhone models, offering a more immersive listening experience. Apple Music remains priced at $11.99 per month or as part of the Apple One bundle.

💡 By turning its Sing technology into a shareable video tool, Apple is tapping directly into the short‑form content boom, positioning Music as a creator‑friendly platform. The visual upgrade also strengthens Apple’s push for a unified, premium UI across its device lineup.

Four no more: macOS 27.3 kills off those stupidly insecure certificates

Apple released macOS 27.3 developer beta 1, which permanently blocks eight eMudhra certificates that were found in October to use absurdly short cryptographic keys, some as short as a single digit. The certificates, issued in April 2025, had been trusted for TLS and code‑signing across Apple, Chrome, Microsoft and Mozilla root stores. Earlier patches stopped their use on iOS, iPadOS and other platforms, but macOS’s curl tool ignored revocation data, leaving older Macs vulnerable. The new update revokes trust even for certificates previously added manually, and Apple also posted guidance for administrators to delete the roots without waiting for an OS upgrade. A public release is slated for December, with a possible interim 27.2.1 fix in the upcoming rollout later.

💡 By finally revoking the bogus roots on macOS, Apple eliminates a rare but glaring trust‑chain flaw that could have been exploited to spoof secure connections or maliciously sign software, restoring confidence in the platform’s certificate ecosystem.

Apple TV reportedly getting Justin Timberlake docuseries, announces new Toni Collette show

Apple TV announced two upcoming series this week. The streaming service confirmed “Lenni,” a darkly comedic mystery starring Toni Collette as a child‑welfare worker whose personal life spirals while she tackles a high‑stakes case. The show adapts Norway’s hit “Pernille” and includes a supporting cast featuring Ciarán Hinds, Dan Wyllie, Josh McKenzie and others; production is underway in Sydney, though a premiere date has not been set. Separately, Variety reported that Justin Timber‑Lake will return to Apple TV with a four‑part docuseries slated for a December release. The series, directed by Fisher Stevens, will revisit the 2004 Super Bowl “wardrobe malfunction” with Janet Jackson and address recent comments from Britney Spears about their past relationship. The project underscores Apple TV’s push for star‑driven content.

💡 Pairing a music megastar’s personal saga with an internationally‑sourced drama shows Apple TV’s strategy to lure subscribers through recognizable talent and cross‑cultural storytelling.

Apple TV ‘Silo’ might get a spinoff

Apple TV is preparing a sequel to its dystopian series “Silo,” according to industry‑insider Sigmund Judge, who has previously broken similar stories. The new project will enter pre‑production later this year and will extend the narrative beyond the show’s fourth and final season, which concludes the television adaptation of Hugh Howey’s novels. Sources say standing sets remain on the lot and hiring for the expansion has already begun, though no premiere date has been set because filming has not started. The spinoff is designed to align with Howey’s forthcoming “Silo 40” book trilogy, slated for publication next summer, creating a cross‑media bridge between the streaming series and the upcoming literary releases, and is expected to attract fans and new viewers.

💡 By syncing a TV spinoff with the upcoming book trilogy, Apple TV leverages narrative continuity to deepen audience engagement across platforms.

Report: Apple and Samsung outperform rivals as smartphone chip shipments tumble 21%

Apple and Samsung were the only major smartphone chip makers to grow market share in the third quarter of 2026, while global shipments fell 21% year‑over‑year, according to Counterpoint Research. Apple’s share rose from 17% to 21%, keeping it third among vendors; Samsung moved from 6% to 8%, placing it fifth. MediaTek remained leader with 28% despite a six‑point drop, and Qualcomm fell to 22% from 25%. New flagship SoCs launched in September – Apple’s A20 series, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 – are expected to lift premium shipments in Q4, though volumes will stay below the previous year. Counterpoint projects a 20% decline in 2026 and another 3‑4% drop in 2027, while memory prices continue rising.

💡 Apple’s share gain proves premium devices can thrive even as the overall market contracts, and Samsung’s rise signals that high‑end Android manufacturers can still capture growth amid shrinking demand.
