Capcom plans to evolve RE Engine into an “AI-generation game engine”

Capcom announced at its RE:2026 Open Conference that its long‑used RE Engine will be upgraded into an “AI‑generation game engine” under the REX Project. Programmer Satoshi Ishida cited three drivers: slow build times from expanding game data, the need for multilingual and accessibility support for over 2,000 developers, and the requirement to embed AI directly into the pipeline. Planned additions include RE:Dox, RE:UI, RE:Log, RE:Flows, RE:Runtime, and an optimized RE:C++ layer. The goal is to enable AI to generate code, run automated tests, and collaborate with developers.

💡 By integrating AI into its core engine, Capcom could drastically cut development time and streamline cross‑lingual workflows, setting a new industry benchmark for scalable, AI‑enhanced game creation.

“Fable’s original combat has a legacy of being quite approachable,” so the…

Fable developers emphasize that the new game will preserve the series’ hallmark approachable combat while adding nuanced tactical options. Associate director Will Kennedy noted that the original titles’ accessible fighting style guided the design, yet the system now includes body‑part targeting, such as leg shots that cause undead enemies to collapse. Craig Littler explained that decapitation or ranged attacks alter enemy behavior, and the Befowl spell behaves uniquely against Hollow foes. The team also plans quests that prioritize dialogue, reputation, and exploration over combat, offering varied gameplay.

💡 By blending familiar, user‑friendly combat with deeper tactical layers, Fable expands its appeal to both casual players and those seeking strategic depth, redefining how RPGs balance accessibility and complexity.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director says he “did his best” to fight…

Director Naoki Hamaguchi of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation told Radio Times he “did his best” to secure a full‑disc release amid a shift toward digital-only games. While the title will ship with a physical “key disc” that contains only the opening cinematic, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X owners must still download the bulk of the game. Hamaguchi said his influence over product SKUs is limited, but he pushed internally and with platform partners to achieve the one‑disc compromise. The game launches on April 8, 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Sony announced it will stop producing PlayStation discs in January 2028, moving all future titles to digital retail only.

💡 The compromise highlights the dwindling leverage developers have over physical formats as console manufacturers phase out discs, forcing fans to adapt to hybrid or fully digital distribution.
