See for yourself the difference the wider aperture of the iPhone 18…

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro introduces a main camera lens that opens to a wider f/1.48 aperture, compared to the f/1.78 on the iPhone 17 Pro. A controlled test using manual settings captured identical portrait shots at f/1.8 and f/1.48, isolating aperture as the sole variable. Results show a noticeable increase in optical background blur, especially for subjects within 30–70 feet, with subtle differences beyond that range. The improvement is modest but measurable, enhancing shallow‑depth‑of‑field effects in real‑world photography.

💡 The wider aperture gives photographers a tangible, optical tool for achieving more pronounced background separation without relying on computational blur, expanding creative control in portrait photography.
