Samsung Galaxy A57 5G review: Is “decent” decent enough?

Samsung released the Galaxy A57 5G as the latest addition to its mid‑range A‑series, aiming to compete despite rising component costs. The device retains the A56’s 5,000 mAh battery and similar dimensions but is slightly smaller (161.5 × 76.8 × 6.9 mm) and lighter at 179 g, thanks to an aluminium frame and Gorilla Glass Victus+ front and back. Samsung offers three storage options—128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB—priced at S$678, S$868 and S$1,058 respectively, a modest increase from the A56 launch. The review evaluates design, display, software updates, camera performance, benchmark scores and battery endurance, concluding that while the A57 improves on weight and build quality, it still struggles under sustained workloads and may not deliver enough value to sway price‑sensitive buyers.

💡 The A57’s modest upgrades test whether Samsung can sustain market share in the fiercely contested mid‑range segment without relying on flagship‑grade parts.

The Xiaomi 18 Ultra would’ve had insane cameras, but it looks like…

Rumors circulating on X and Chinese platform Weibo claim Xiaomi has cancelled the planned 18 Ultra flagship, citing an unaffordable price tag as the primary obstacle. The unlaunched device was rumored to sport a groundbreaking triple‑camera system, each sensor rated at 200 megapixels: a 1/1.12‑inch LOFIC main sensor, a 1/1.56‑inch ultra‑wide sensor, and a 200 MP periscope lens for optical zoom. A tipster named Abhishek Yadav suggested a launch price of roughly 9,999 RMB (about $1,499). The phone would also have featured a flat display with ultra‑thin 1 mm bezels. Xiaomi’s recent 18 Pro and Pro Max models already include dual 200 MP cameras, but lack the ultra‑wide 200 MP unit. The cancellation hints the company may postpone an “Ultra” tier until the 19 series.

💡 The scrapped Ultra model underscores how premium pricing can force even tech giants to rethink flagship ambitions, potentially reshaping Xiaomi’s roadmap for future high‑end releases.

Google Wallet rolling out stacked card list redesign on Android

Google is expanding a redesign of its Android Wallet app that replaces the carousel view of stored payment cards with a stacked list layout. The new interface displays a full‑size preview of the primary card and a sliver of the next card, allowing users to tap or swipe down for a fullscreen view that reveals most of each card and a gear icon for settings. Card management, including reordering and setting a default, remains accessible via a “Manage payment methods” button at the bottom of the screen. The change, first introduced on the homepage’s lower half earlier in the year, rolled out broadly in September through a server‑side update and is now available on multiple devices. It aims to improve one‑handed usability while adding a minor extra step to access card details.

💡 The redesign prioritizes quick, single‑hand access to the most frequently used payment method, enhancing the user experience for on‑the‑go transactions.
