Forever Ago (PS5) Review: Annapurna’s Latest Adventure Feels Dated

Annapurna Interactive’s Forever Ago follows 70‑year‑old Alfred as he follows his late wife Audrey’s journal, revisiting shared locations in a nostalgic scavenger hunt. The game emphasizes emotional storytelling, with voice acting and a mellow soundtrack underscoring Alfred’s grief. However, gameplay suffers from sluggish pacing, limited interactivity, and clumsy mechanics such as the boat sequence and instant camera. Technical issues—framerate drops, audio problems, and infrequent save points—further detract from the experience, leaving the title feeling basic and uneven.

💡 The review highlights how even a well‑written narrative can be undermined by poor design choices, underscoring the importance of balanced gameplay in emotionally driven titles.

Why State of Decay 3 Is Still Launching on Game Pass

Undead Labs, the studio behind State of Decay, confirmed it will continue to offer the game on Xbox Game Pass. Studio head Philip Holt cited the service’s large daily audience and high retention rates—half of monthly users play for nearly two years, a quarter for over five—as key factors. The studio is collaborating with three co‑development teams to keep the project on schedule.

The Australian Government Helps Workers Know Their Rights for Taking Time Off…

Australia’s Fair Work Ombudsman released a tongue‑in‑cheek graphic warning workers that, despite the hype surrounding the November launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, the National Employment Standards only permit unpaid leave for specific reasons such as caring responsibilities, emergencies or parental duties. The illustration humorously replaces typical leave scenarios with images of the game, underscoring the cultural buzz. Meanwhile, Rockstar’s GTA VI is projected to generate $5.2 billion in its first week, with a reported $1.5 billion development budget and a high‑profile marketing push that includes Miami Heat Vice City jerseys and a CBS video highlighting the game’s realistic recreation of South Florida. The government’s advisory reflects the title’s unprecedented public interest.

💡 The stunt shows how a single entertainment release can strain conventional labour policies, prompting regulators to address modern work‑life expectations.

Streaming Games Means the Nintendo DSi Will Never Be Obsolete

The RNDS‑Stream project lets Nintendo’s 2008 DSi handheld receive a live MJPEG video feed from a Linux PC, effectively turning the console into a thin client for casual PC games. Developed by homebrew coder gavff64, the software decodes a server‑side X11 or xWayland window at roughly 15‑20 fps, allowing titles such as Counter‑Strike to be played without native ports. Audio is not yet streamed, keeping latency low. RNDS‑Stream also serves as a demonstration of RubyNDS, a Ruby‑based framework for DSi homebrew created by the same author. The code is released under an MIT license on GitHub, adding a rare modern use case to a platform that has seen limited post‑release development beyond early flash carts and a few AR apps today.

💡 Repurposing the DSi as a low‑cost streaming terminal shows how niche homebrew can prolong obsolete hardware’s relevance and spark similar retro‑tech innovations.
