AI-summarised brief · reviewed before publication

Walmart is offering the Gigabyte A16 Pro 16‑inch gaming laptop for $1,449 with free shipping for one week, reviving a deal from the recent GeForce Week Event. The machine pairs an Intel Core i7‑1240H ten‑core processor (up to 5.2 GHz) with Nvidia’s mobile RTX 5070 Ti GPU, a 12 GB card running at 115 W TGP, delivering roughly 20‑30 % more performance than the RTX 5070 and matching RTX 4080 levels in DLSS 4.5‑enabled titles. It ships with 32 GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1 TB SSD, the RAM fixed but the SSD upgradeable. The 16‑inch 2560×1600 IPS panel refreshes at 165 Hz, while the chassis weighs about five pounds and tapers to 0.77 inch, unusually thin for a 16‑inch gaming notebook. Its battery life reaches eight hours under typical gaming workloads.

💡 Why It Matters

· At $1,449 the A16 Pro brings near‑flagship RTX 5080‑class power to a price point previously reserved for mid‑range rigs, forcing consumers to reconsider the cost barrier for premium mobile gaming.

LG Smart TVs Vulnerable to Pre-Auth Root Takeover From Local Network

Three flaws in LG’s webOS can be chained to let a LAN attacker obtain root on certain smart TVs without a PIN or user interaction. The exploit uses the service on port 3001 that the LG ThinQ app accesses, replays a signed manifest from the sync‑demo app, and forces the pairing service to skip its PIN prompt. With the privileged key the attacker launches the cmp‑client app, redirects it to a malicious page, and uses PalmServiceBridge to invoke the root‑run pmlogd logging service, which runs shell commands. LG issued a firmware update for webOS 7.5.7‑25 (04.54.40) on October 12, covering models 32LQ636BPSA and 27TQ600SW; impact on other devices is unknown. No workaround exists and no CVE IDs or wild exploits have been reported.

💡 The chain demonstrates that even routine network‑local services can become a gateway to full device control, exposing households to covert surveillance or sabotage.

iPhone Air 2 is coming, here’s everything we know so far

Apple is developing a second‑generation iPhone Air after the first model underperformed, according to reports from The Information and Bloomberg. The new iPhone Air 2 will add a second rear camera—a ultra‑wide lens—to match the camera layout of Apple’s standard iPhones, and will be powered by the A20 Pro processor, the company’s first 2‑nanometer chip. The A20 Pro uses wafer‑level multi‑chip module technology to integrate the SoC and DRAM, promising higher performance and better efficiency in the same footprint. Battery capacity is slated to rise to 3,500 mAh, a more than 10 % increase over the original, and a vapor‑chamber cooling system from the iPhone 17 Pro will be incorporated to improve heat dissipation. While the device was initially expected in September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, Bloomberg now cites a spring 2027 launch with the base iPhone 18.

💡 The upgrades directly address the first Air’s sales‑driving flaws—camera capability, battery life, and thermal performance—positioning the Air 2 as a viable mid‑range alternative in Apple’s 2027 lineup.

Jailbroken PS5 consoles could soon run Windows PC games via “Mihawk OS”

Developer Mihawk has succeeded in running a Windows 11‑based environment, dubbed Mihawk OS, on jailbroken PlayStation 5 hardware. The project builds a translation layer that enables both 32‑bit and 64‑bit Windows games to execute directly on the console, leveraging a Proton‑style compatibility stack. Early demonstrations include the game Hades running inside Windows on the PS5, and RetroArch has been ported to prove the system’s broader emulation capabilities. Mihawk says development is progressing, with plans to add a Linux compatibility layer as well. The effort remains closed‑source, and performance metrics for most titles are still unknown. Users must jailbreak their consoles, which disables official PlayStation network services and carries account‑risk warnings. If stable, hack could transform the PS5 into a gaming hub.

💡 It blurs the line between console and PC, offering owners a cheap pathway to native Windows gaming without a separate machine.
