That five-year-old Apple TV 4K is getting Siri AI

Apple has announced that its new Siri AI will be available as a beta on Apple TV 4K models from the second generation onward, covering devices released since 2021. Getting a HomeView repaired could cost 93% of just replacing it

Apple announced a flat‑rate repair fee for its HomeView smart display. Without AppleCare, the charge is $279, only $20 less than buying a new $299 unit. The repair estimator lists a single “Other damage” fee, with no breakdown for screen or battery replacements. If insured under AppleCare+ or AppleCare One, the repair cost drops to $39. AppleCare+ for HomeView costs $2.49/month ($24.99/year), while AppleCare One covers three devices for $19.99/month. The choice depends on which Apple products a consumer owns.

💡 The near‑replacement price forces users to weigh the value of AppleCare against the cost of a new HomeView, spotlighting Apple’s strategy to lock customers into its ecosystem.

Apple’s frenetic HomeView video showed the one use-case for this device

Apple unveiled its HomeView smart display with a launch video that diverges sharply from the company’s usual polished style. The clip shows a chaotic family kitchen during a weekday morning, emphasizing the device’s intended role as a shared hub for households with children. Reviewers note that the design nods to the iMac G4 while adopting a modern aesthetic, but the small screen limits its usefulness as a digital photo frame. Apple already offers similar multi‑user functionality through HomePod’s Personal Requests, raising questions about the added value of HomeView for single users or couples. For families, the promise is a single screen that coordinates schedules, media and information, potentially reducing the need for each member to stare at a personal phone daily.

💡 By positioning HomeView as a communal breakfast hub, Apple attempts to reverse the trend toward isolated screen use and re‑establish the living room as a shared digital space.
