AI-summarised brief · reviewed before publication

Tech journalist Jennifer Young reviews the Comu Action Pro, a credit‑card‑sized recorder that transcribes audio in real time. Priced at $169.99, the device offers unlimited speech‑to‑text without a subscription, contrasting with Otter.ai’s $16.99‑per‑month plan that limits users to three free imports. The Action Pro features a six‑microphone adaptive array, live AMOLED waveform display, USB‑C charging, real‑time translation in 113 languages and over 60 hours of battery life. Young tested it at Gamescom and BlizzCon, noting the one‑button operation, seamless upload to a companion app, and reliable transcription of both on‑device and external recordings. Optional premium AI tools, such as slide generation and meeting‑minute creation, cost $14.99 monthly, but the core functionality remains free after purchase, making it a compelling alternative.

💡 Why It Matters

· Eliminating recurring transcription fees gives freelancers a fixed cost, allowing more budget to be allocated to actual content creation.

I Bought a Steam Machine – Here’s Why (and How It’s Going)

After joining a waitlist on a whim, tech editor Jackie Thomas received a purchase email for Valve’s Steam Machine 512 GB model with a Steam Controller and had three days to decide. Initially hesitant due to the device’s price and the convenience of his docked Steam Deck, PS5, Xbox Series X and Switch 2, Thomas revisited reviews during the window. Dissatisfied with recent console first‑party offerings and ongoing subscription fees, he found Valve’s consumer‑friendly approach appealing. He ultimately ordered the Steam Machine moments before the deadline, citing its seamless integration with his extensive Steam library and 4K TV performance. While not more powerful than his consoles, the system’s SteamOS environment and the Steam Controller quickly became his preferred gaming setup, prompting him to prioritize the Steam Machine/Deck combo over future console purchases.

💡 Valve’s Steam Machine demonstrates that a PC‑centric console can attract seasoned gamers disillusioned with traditional console ecosystems, reshaping hardware loyalty.

iPhone Duo sells out immediately, now backordered until next year

Apple launched pre‑orders for its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, early this morning. Within minutes, the company’s ordering system displayed delivery estimates stretching into the following year, with the earliest shipments slated for October 23 for those who ordered instantly. By 8:30 a.m. ET all color and storage variants were listed as back‑ordered, showing estimated ship dates of January 25 and, for some, January 29. Apple attributes the delay to a mix of unusually strong consumer demand and a severely limited production ramp, a situation confirmed by a recent Nikkei Asia report that cited daily output of only a few hundred units. Secondary‑market sellers have already posted the device on eBay for up to $5,200, underscoring the scarcity in the market.

💡 The scramble for the iPhone Duo turns it into a status symbol, forcing buyers to pay premium resale prices and pressuring Apple to accelerate its foldable production line.

Qualcomm says rumors about Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 overheating are…

Qualcomm refuted recent Korean media reports that Samsung was considering abandoning the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 due to alleged overheating problems. The company told 9to5Google the rumors of “thermal issues” were inaccurate and emphasized that there are “no systemic thermal issues” with the chip. Qualcomm’s chief marketing officer, Don McGuire, reiterated on X that OEMs routinely fine‑tune platforms during launch and that the new processor, which adds two 5 GHz cores and significant CPU/GPU gains over the Gen 5 flagship, is performing as intended. The chip is already slated for devices such as Motorola’s Signature 27, Xiaomi 18, Redmagic 12 Pro Plus, Honor Magic 9 Pro Max, OnePlus 16 and others, underscoring its broad adoption despite the speculation.

💡 Qualcomm’s denial protects the chip’s reputation, ensuring continued OEM confidence and preventing a potential shift back to rival silicon in flagship smartphones.
