Microsoft says AI agents are like insider threats as ‘frontier models can’t…

Microsoft unveiled “Guardian Agents,” a new security layer within its Project Perception suite, to monitor and control AI agents deployed by enterprises. The feature joins existing red‑team, blue‑team, and green‑team agents that simulate attackers, detect vulnerabilities, and remediate them. CEO Satya Nadella warned that AI agents can become insider threats, urging firms to separate the supply of intelligence from authority over it. Microsoft’s security chief Hayete Gallot echoed this, saying frontier models are unpredictable and cannot be trusted to follow organizational norms. In addition to Guardian Agents, Microsoft Defender now detects up to 60 agent types, restricts their data access, and requires human approval for risky actions. The move positions Microsoft to sell independent agent‑security tools while distancing customers from reliance on model providers.

💡 By treating AI agents as potential insiders, Microsoft forces enterprises to adopt third‑party oversight, creating a new revenue stream and reshaping trust dynamics in the AI supply chain.

Windows 11’s Hybrid Intelligence features will breathe new life into NPUs

Microsoft announced that Windows 11 will receive a suite of “Hybrid Intelligence” features, extending the Copilot experience on devices classified as Copilot+ PCs. The new capabilities will dynamically route AI workloads between on‑device neural processing units (NPUs) and cloud services, allowing local models to handle simple tasks while more demanding operations are offloaded. Hybrid Intelligence will power updates to Copilot Home, Code and Autopilot, and introduces the Aion Instruct model, a small on‑device language engine that can run on NPUs, GPUs or CPUs. Although the Copilot+ branding is being retired as a marketing label, the hardware requirements remain, and the features are slated to roll out over the coming months on compatible PCs. Early adopters will see gains in everyday tasks.

💡 By finally leveraging on‑device NPUs, Microsoft reduces reliance on cloud inference, delivering faster responses and stronger privacy for Windows users.

Google now wants Windows 11 users to ditch Edge for Chrome, and…

Google’s “Choose Chrome” banner appears on Google.com when accessed via Microsoft Edge, offering a one‑click download of Chrome that initiates the installer automatically. The pop‑up also pre‑checks sending usage data to Google. In response, Edge displays a banner promoting its Chromium‑based technology and urging users to stay with Edge. The exchange highlights a competitive push‑pull between Google and Microsoft over browser market share, raising concerns about self‑preference tactics.

💡 The tactic underscores how major tech firms leverage platform dominance to steer user behavior, potentially skewing browser choice and data collection practices.

Microsoft promised fewer Windows 11 ads, but its wallpaper app acts like…

Microsoft promised to cut advertising in Windows 11, yet its optional Bing Wallpaper app has resurfaced with ad‑ware‑like behavior. After a recent update, any left‑click on the desktop background launches Bing.com in the user’s default browser, a feature that first appeared in 2025 and was previously toggleable. Tests by Windows Latest show the redirect occurs only once every 24 hours, making it easy to miss, and the toggle to disable it is no longer present. The app also displays pop‑ups urging users to set Bing as the default search engine, attempting to modify browser settings. While the wallpaper service sources images from photographers and partners such as Getty Images, the new functionality undermines its original purpose and raises concerns about unwanted system interactions.

💡 By turning a benign personalization tool into a click‑hijacking gateway, Microsoft blurs the line between optional features and intrusive software, prompting users to question trust in core OS utilities.

Xbox strategist says he might be fired: “Because I told you the…

Senior Business Strategy Manager Brandon Stirrup of Xbox used a weekend project—a rudimentary “bad game” built with AI prompts—to publicly acknowledge that Microsoft is already leveraging artificial intelligence in game creation. In a social‑media post, he warned that his candidness could cost him his job, arguing that AI is lowering development barriers and that the gaming sector is uniquely resistant because of negative user sentiment. Stirrup noted that while other entertainment fields have embraced AI, gaming leaders remain reluctant to discuss it openly. He pointed to Xbox Labs’ recent focus on AI experiments and cited examples such as Capcom’s admission of AI use, emphasizing the need for developers to manage AI‑generated code responsibly.

💡 Stirrup’s admission forces the industry to confront a looming shift from guarded secrecy to transparent AI integration, testing how studios balance creative control with rapidly accessible tooling.
