CD Projekt announced a surprise “Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5)” slated for Thursday, October 22, 2026. The free patch will arrive on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version promised later. While specifics remain under wraps, the developer confirmed new items and features inspired by the Netflix anime Edgerunners 2, which premieres the same day. Teasers mention additional cyberware customization, a dual‑wielding combat style and fresh “chrome” gear. Further details and official patch notes will be revealed during a REDstreams broadcast on October 21. The update follows CD Projekt’s earlier claim of “no plans” for new Cyberpunk 2027 DLC, reviving player interest after the 2023 Phantom Liberty expansion and 40 million‑copy sales milestone and rekindles community discussions about future sequel timelines overall.

💡 Why It Matters

  • · By syncing a major free update with the Edgerunners 2 launch, CD Projekt turns streaming buzz into active game engagement, proving the studio can still generate fresh content without a full expansion.

Xbox Game Pass Reportedly Getting ‘Major Overhaul,’ Will Feature ‘À La Carte’…

Microsoft is set to overhaul Xbox Game Pass, introducing an à la carte model that lets subscribers pick individual features such as console-only titles, cloud gaming, and multiplayer. The revamp will operate on a tiered structure, according to a Fortune profile of Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. The change follows internal concerns that the subscription model cannibalized sales of higher‑priced first‑party games and created conflicting metrics across teams. Sharma, in her first six months, has already cut Game Pass Ultimate pricing, signed a new Metal Gear Solid project, launched two new verticals, and delegated Halo development to Activision. The update signals a strategic shift toward modular, customer‑centric offerings amid competitive pressures.

💡 The move could redefine how console subscriptions compete with streaming services, offering gamers flexibility while protecting Xbox’s premium titles. It also signals Microsoft’s willingness to restructure its revenue model to balance subscription growth with traditional game sales.

Palworld lead calls Steam Next Fest a gamble that’s “still worth taking”…

Pocketpair’s head of publishing, John “Bucky” Buckley, defended Steam Next Fest as a worthwhile platform despite the influx of AI‑generated titles. He noted that the event historically attracts a high volume of low‑impact games, yet the most polished and timely releases still rise to prominence. Buckley highlighted the festival’s role in gathering player feedback and data before launch, arguing that the core value of Next Fest remains unchanged even as influencer culture and player numbers grow.

💡 The discussion underscores how developers can still leverage large digital festivals to refine and promote their games, proving that community engagement outweighs the noise of AI‑heavy releases.

Its timing amid workforce reductions underscores a broader industry trend of balancing product innovation with cost‑control measures.

Xbox is struggling for stock so bad that it’s asking ex-users to…

Xbox has announced a new trade‑in program targeting former users, offering discounted hardware in exchange for older consoles and accessories. The initiative aims to boost sales amid a slump in the gaming console market, where recent launch titles have underperformed and inventory levels remain high. Microsoft will accept a range of legacy Xbox models, including the Series X and Series S, and will provide a credit toward new purchases. The company expects the program to refresh its product lineup and attract budget‑conscious gamers.

💡 By courting ex‑owners, Xbox seeks to reverse declining sales and clear excess inventory, a critical move to maintain its competitive edge in a market where consumer spending is tightening.

Another PS5 jailbreak has seemingly arrived ahead of GTA 6

Another PS5 jailbreak has seemingly arrived ahead of GTA 6

A prominent PS5 hacker, Gezine, announced a new exploit that bypasses Sony’s latest 14.10 firmware, granting access to the console’s debug menu. The discovery arrives just before the release of GTA 6, raising concerns that the game could be pirated once the exploit is publicly released. Sony’s typical defense—requiring the latest firmware to play new titles—may be undermined if the jailbreak remains effective. The company has a history of paying substantial bounties to patch vulnerabilities.

💡 The exploit threatens to erode the protective barrier Sony relies on to safeguard upcoming blockbuster releases, potentially accelerating piracy and undermining the console’s security model.
