ChatGPT now lets you lock your chats

OpenAI announced that ChatGPT users can now lock conversations with a four‑digit PIN, Face ID, or Touch ID to keep sensitive chats private when sharing a device. Locked chats move to a dedicated section, separate from regular history, and maintain their own memory that does not bleed into other chats. The feature is available across all paid plans and the free tier, but not on ChatGPT for Healthcare. Locking does not add end‑to‑end encryption or alter data retention policies.

💡 The ability to isolate private exchanges addresses growing user concerns about on‑screen privacy, especially as ChatGPT becomes a go‑to tool for personal planning and sensitive discussions.

Google says Chrome’s Safe Browsing Enhanced Protection mode makes users 10x safer

Google announced enhancements to Chrome’s Safe Browsing Enhanced Protection, claiming a tenfold increase in safety against phishing, social engineering, notification abuse, and other scams. The update adds address‑bar warnings for suspicious sites, a shield icon in the Omnibox, and full‑page interstitials for dangerous sites. It leverages Gemini cloud models to analyze page content, brand intent, and scam likelihood, while keeping data ephemerally processed. The new system also blocks ClickFix scripts that trick users into executing malicious commands, protecting users in real time.

💡 By integrating advanced AI analysis and stricter in‑browser safeguards, Chrome significantly reduces the risk of sophisticated phishing and malware attacks that exploit user trust and system utilities. This shift strengthens the browser’s role as a frontline defense in the evolving threat landscape.

Anthropic pitches AI safety bill that may block a model if 50+…

Anthropic has drafted a federal AI‑safety bill that would allow the U.S. Commerce Department to block the release of an artificial‑intelligence model if an “imminent, foreseeable” scenario could kill more than 50 people or cause over $1 billion in property damage. The bill defines such catastrophes as stemming from a biological weapon, a model evading its developer’s controls, or a cyber‑attack. Independent evaluators, registered with the Commerce Department and paid by AI firms on a non‑contingent basis, would assess risk and, within 72 hours of a dangerous finding, notify the department, which must then seek a judicial order to halt distribution. Federal agencies would be barred from acting unilaterally. The proposal mirrors California’s Senate Bill 53 and reflects Anthropic’s broader “Advanced AI Framework” advocated to lawmakers since June.

💡 By tying model shutdowns to judicial approval, the bill creates a legal bottleneck that could slow or prevent the deployment of high‑risk AI systems, forcing the industry to confront safety assessments before market release.

Windows 11’s design boss admits it needs work, while AI fixes OS…

Microsoft’s VP of Product Design, Diego Baca, confirmed that AI tools are now actively helping designers address Windows 11’s long‑standing consistency issues. He noted that AI agents accelerate design work and even enable designers to contribute directly to code fixes, improving the operating system’s craft and quality. Baca acknowledged user frustration over design gaps and pledged that Microsoft will “earn back enthusiasm” by delivering tangible improvements rather than promises. The comments come amid ongoing criticism of Windows 11’s dated interface elements.

💡 By integrating AI into the design workflow, Microsoft signals a shift toward faster, data‑driven updates that could close the gap between user expectations and the OS’s current state. This approach may set a new standard for how large software firms iterate on legacy platforms.

Google is bringing a more personal version of its Gemini AI assistant…

Google has upgraded its Gemini AI assistant in vehicles to include a Personal Intelligence feature that pulls data from Gmail, Calendar, YouTube, Maps, Search history, and other Google services. The update launches today on Android Auto and will later expand to cars with Google Built‑in. Users must opt in, and can choose which apps to connect. The assistant can answer complex, natural‑language queries and provide contextual alerts, such as flight delays while navigating to an airport. The feature aims to deepen integration across Google’s ecosystem.

💡 By weaving personal data into in‑car AI, Google tightens its hold on drivers’ daily routines, turning the vehicle into a proactive assistant that anticipates needs and streamlines travel.
