Modretro’s Chromatic is more transparent and cheaper than ever; how could I not love it?
AI-summarised brief · reviewed before publication
Modretro released a new Chromatic Transparent, a high‑end FPGA Game Boy Color clone that supports original cartridges with accurate hardware‑level emulation. The unit features a backlit, transparent display, Gorilla Glass protection, and a rechargeable USB‑C battery pack, while dropping the previous $200 price to under $150 with a bundled Tetris cartridge. It offers a 1:1 visual experience, modern connectivity, and firmware updates, though some button feel and volume control differ slightly from the original hardware.
💡 Why It Matters
- · The Transparent model democratizes authentic retro gameplay, letting collectors and casual players experience classic titles without the fragility or battery issues of vintage units.
- · Its lower price point could revive interest in handheld gaming nostalgia and set a new standard for modern retro‑clone design.
