Google says Chrome’s Safe Browsing Enhanced Protection mode makes users 10x safer

Google announced enhancements to Chrome’s Safe Browsing Enhanced Protection, claiming a tenfold increase in safety against phishing, social engineering, notification abuse, and other scams. The update adds address‑bar warnings for suspicious sites, a shield icon in the Omnibox, and full‑page interstitials for dangerous sites. It leverages Gemini cloud models to analyze page content, brand intent, and scam likelihood, while keeping data ephemerally processed. The new system also blocks ClickFix scripts that trick users into executing malicious commands, protecting users in real time.

💡 By integrating advanced AI analysis and stricter in‑browser safeguards, Chrome significantly reduces the risk of sophisticated phishing and malware attacks that exploit user trust and system utilities. This shift strengthens the browser’s role as a frontline defense in the evolving threat landscape.

Google’s new 3D emojis are starting to roll out to older Pixel…

Google has begun rolling out its new Noto 3D emoji set to older Pixel devices. The 3‑D designs debuted with Android 17 and the Pixel 11 series, replacing the flat icons that long‑time Android users criticized as bland. A Reddit post confirmed that a Pixel 6a received the updated emojis via a system update, not a Gboard change. Tests on Pixel 9a and Pixel 9 Pro running Android 17 showed no change, indicating a limited, staged deployment. Google says the emojis will eventually appear on all Android phones, including models from manufacturers such as Nothing, Lenovo, Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, Honor and Motorola. The rollout is expected to expand over the next weeks. Early adopters report smoother animation and richer color gradients that enhance expressive messaging.

💡 By extending the 3‑D emojis to legacy devices, Google narrows the visual gap with iOS and strengthens brand consistency across the Android ecosystem.

Google rolling out minor Nest Hub update

Google began rolling out firmware version 31.20260429.103.8713700 to its Nest Hub lineup—including the original Nest Hub, Nest Hub (2nd Gen) and Nest Hub Max—on October 20. The update, built on Google’s Fuchsia operating system, is described in the sparse release notes as containing bug fixes and critical security patches. It follows two September updates and brings the total to nearly a dozen Nest Hub firmware releases this year, none of which have introduced visible new features. Analysts view the cadence as routine platform maintenance rather than product innovation. The rollout continues the company’s pattern of quietly patching its smart‑display ecosystem to address stability and security concerns without altering the user experience. The patch also updates background services that manage voice‑assistant responsiveness smoothly.

💡 By tightening the Nest Hub’s security baseline, Google reduces the attack surface of increasingly connected homes, reinforcing trust in its smart‑display platform.

Google is bringing a more personal version of its Gemini AI assistant…

Google has upgraded its Gemini AI assistant in vehicles to include a Personal Intelligence feature that pulls data from Gmail, Calendar, YouTube, Maps, Search history, and other Google services. The update launches today on Android Auto and will later expand to cars with Google Built‑in. Users must opt in, and can choose which apps to connect. The assistant can answer complex, natural‑language queries and provide contextual alerts, such as flight delays while navigating to an airport. The feature aims to deepen integration across Google’s ecosystem.

💡 By weaving personal data into in‑car AI, Google tightens its hold on drivers’ daily routines, turning the vehicle into a proactive assistant that anticipates needs and streamlines travel.

Google Home Speaker is downloading huge amounts of data, and users need…

Users report that Google Home Speakers are consuming unexpectedly large amounts of data, with some devices downloading several terabytes in a month despite minimal use. Reports from Reddit and other forums indicate daily consumption spikes of up to 140 GB per speaker, with a single user noting 6 TB across three devices in under a month. The issue appears limited to Home Speakers, not Nest Audio units. Google acknowledges the problem and is rolling out a fix. The company attributes the problem to a firmware download loop that repeatedly fails to install.

💡 The data‑usage anomaly threatens user privacy and network stability, exposing a flaw in Google’s AI‑driven home ecosystem that could erode trust in its smart‑home offerings.

Personal Intelligence hits the road: Google brings Gemini’s tailored assistance to Android…

Google announced that Gemini’s Personal Intelligence will be integrated into Android Auto, extending the AI‑driven assistance found on phones to vehicle dashboards. With user‑granted permission, the system can access Gmail, Photos, Maps, Search, and Workspace apps to provide context‑aware answers, such as flight status, gate numbers, or personalized restaurant recommendations along a route. Gemini can resume prior conversations, surface relevant details, and generate navigation prompts without requiring the driver to manually retrieve information. Google emphasized that drivers retain control over data sharing and that privacy safeguards remain central. The rollout will begin in the next few months for vehicles equipped with Google‑built‑in Android Auto, and users who have already enabled Personal Intelligence on their phones will experience a seamless transition.

💡 By turning a car’s infotainment screen into a proactive, data‑rich co‑pilot, Google blurs the line between mobile and automotive AI, making real‑time, personalized assistance a standard part of the driving experience.
