Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has set a new franchise high on Metacritic, earning an 86 score from 17 critic reviews. The rating surpasses every mainline entry since 2011’s Modern Warfare 3 and tops recent releases such as Black Ops 7 (65) and Modern Warfare II (75). Developed primarily by Infinity Ward with assistance from Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software, the game launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. It features a single‑player campaign set on the Korean Peninsula, returning characters Captain Price, Ghost and Valeria, and adds competitive multiplayer and an extraction‑style DMZ mode. Open-world spy game from Grand Theft Auto dev never happened because Rockstar…

Rockstar Games announced Agent, an open‑world stealth title set in the 1970s Cold War, at E3 2009 as a PlayStation 3 exclusive. The project entered development with several internal teams but never left the prototype stage. Co‑founder Dan Houser told IGN the studio repeatedly failed to reconcile the fast‑paced, globe‑hopping demands of spy narratives with Rockstar’s signature sandbox pacing, concluding the design was unsolvable. After years of rumors, Rockstar quietly abandoned the trademark and ceased public discussion, leaving Agent unreleased. Houser noted that while other studios might attempt a similar concept, Rockstar’s focus on massive releases such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and the forthcoming GTA 6 left little room for experimental departures. The cancellation highlighted the difficulty of blending narrative urgency with open worlds, a challenge debated.

💡 It reveals a core design tension that may limit Rockstar’s genre diversification, informing expectations for future experimental projects.

Mass Effect Universe “looked incredible” says creator who claims he advised BioWare

Content creator Dantics, who says he served on a BioWare community council, posted on X claiming insider knowledge of the cancelled Mass Effect Universe, the planned sequel to the franchise. He alleges the game would take place more than 600 years after the Reaper War and focus on a galaxy‑wide Cold War among three superpowers: the Council races, a unified Human‑Krogan‑Batarian alliance, and the Geth. Dantics described a customizable N7 operative “like John Wick meets James Bond,” equipped with experimental implants for hacking, wall‑seeing and remote hazard control. The design reportedly featured handcrafted missions with Hitman‑style freedom, brutal close‑range executions, unsanitised romances and a powerful Asari matriarch Liara. No official source has verified his claims, and BioWare and EA have not commented.

💡 If accurate, the details reveal a bold narrative shift that could have re‑energized the franchise and set a new standard for player agency in sci‑fi RPGs.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time designer wanted Navi to be a “cute girl,”…

Nintendo veteran Yoshiaki Koizumi revealed that Navi, the iconic fairy companion in Zelda: Ocarina of Time, was originally intended to be a human‑like character. Technical constraints of the Nintendo 64 prevented a detailed girl model, so Koizumi designed Navi as a glowing orb with wings instead. The design choice also served to replace a generic on‑screen marker, aligning with the game’s unique Z‑targeting system. The upcoming remake has confirmed Navi remains the same iridescent sphere, though with smoother edges.

💡 The story shows how hardware limits can shape beloved game icons, underscoring the creative compromises behind iconic design choices.
