Someone is bringing Android Auto back to your phone’s screen, and it…

Android Auto’s phone‑screen feature, discontinued in 2019, is returning via a new app called PhoneAuto. Developed by a third‑party, the app uses Google’s head‑unit server to run Android Auto directly on a phone’s display, bypassing Google’s own “Assistant Driving Mode.” Beta testing on a Galaxy Z Fold 8 shows functional landscape mode, though portrait lag persists. The app requires manual shutdown of the head‑unit server and may need accessibility permissions for automation. It is available for sideloading from GitHub, with a Play Store release expected before January.

💡 Restoring phone‑screen Android Auto offers a low‑cost, convenient alternative to in‑car displays, potentially reshaping how drivers access navigation and media without new hardware.

Gemini Notebook for Android, iOS adds built-in audio recorder

Google has added a audio recorder to Gemini Notebook on Android and iOS, expanding the app’s note‑taking toolkit after last week’s Connected App integration. A microphone icon appears between the camera button and the “Create New” floating action button, allowing users to capture lectures or spontaneous thoughts. Launching the recorder from the home screen creates a new notebook; tapping it from the Sources tab saves the file to an existing notebook. The simple interface includes pause, stop and a themed waveform with a live timer, and recordings continue in the background for up to one hour. The feature, first announced in September, is now rolling out widely, alongside a tweak that makes the “Create New” button open a notebook instantly.

💡 Embedding audio capture directly into Gemini Notebook lets users merge spoken and written content in a single workspace, streamlining research and study processes.

FTC hits Samsung with a $15 million fine over Galaxy S21, S22’s…

South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission has fined Samsung Electronics 20 billion won (about $15 million) for deceptive claims about gaming performance on its Galaxy S21, Galaxy S22 smartphones and Galaxy Tab S8 tablet. The regulator said Samsung marketed a Game Optimization Service (GOS) as a heat‑management feature that would keep devices cool during play, but internal tests showed the software throttles CPU and GPU power regardless of temperature, causing frame drops, lag and freezes. Samsung’s advertisements highlighted smooth, rapid screen transitions as a selling point, yet users experienced reduced graphics quality even on cool devices. The company disputes the findings, arguing GOS was intended to sustain stable gameplay, and has announced plans to contest the penalty in the upcoming regulatory hearing next month.

💡 The fine spotlights the growing scrutiny of software‑level performance claims, forcing manufacturers to be transparent about hidden throttling that directly affects consumer experience.

Android Find Hub app reveals how ‘Left Behind’ and ‘Ring your phone’…

Google is preparing to launch its first Android Find Hub tracker, the Pixel Tag, on November 11, and has updated the Find Hub app to preview new features. The update confirms “Left Behind” notifications, which alert users when items such as tags, devices, or headsets are left behind, and details a “Ring your phone” function that rings a paired phone by double‑tapping the tag. Users can enable notifications per device and transfer the ring feature between devices. The features are not live yet but are expected to roll out with the tracker’s debut.

💡 The new alerts give Android users proactive control over lost items, reducing the frustration of misplaced gear. The ability to ring a phone from a tag adds a practical, hardware‑agnostic tool for locating devices in real time.

Microsoft Authenticator Flaw Let Permissionless Android Apps Steal Work Account Tokens

Microsoft fixed a flaw in its Android Authenticator app (CVE‑2026‑80097) that allowed a permissionless malicious app to masquerade as a trusted Microsoft app, such as Teams, and obtain sign‑in tokens for a victim’s work account. The vulnerability enabled full access to email, files, and calendar via Microsoft Graph tokens. The flaw required the victim to complete a sign‑in step in Authenticator and was not publicly exploited. Microsoft released the patch in version 6.2606.4246, urging all users to update.

💡 The breach exposes a critical identity‑broker weakness that could let attackers impersonate legitimate Microsoft services, undermining enterprise authentication security. Prompt updates are essential to prevent potential unauthorized access to corporate data.
