NASA’s Artemis III crew, consisting of commander Randy Bresnik, mission specialists Andre Douglas and Frank Rubio, and ESA pilot Luca Parmitano, visited the White House on October 28, 2026, meeting President Donald Trump and posing for photographs. The visit followed the Artemis II crew’s April stop. The astronauts, along with backup Bob Hines and agency chief Jared Isaacman, were welcomed by Trump. Artemis III is slated to launch in summer 2027, aiming to dock Orion with SpaceX’s Starship and/or Blue Origin’s Blue Moon for a two‑week lunar‑orbit mission. The flight will test rendezvous procedures essential for future lunar landings, including the first crewed moon landing since 1972.

💡 Why It Matters

· The meeting underscores presidential support for NASA’s lunar ambitions and signals confidence in commercial partners Starship and Blue Moon, whose readiness will shape the next era of human space exploration.

On this day in space! Oct. 30, 1964: NASA’s weird Lunar Landing…

On October 30, 1964, NASA’s Lunar Landing Research Vehicle (LLRV), nicknamed the “Flying Bedstead,” completed its inaugural test flight at the Dryden Flight Research Center in Edwards, California. The four‑legged aircraft, piloted by X‑15 ace Joe Walker, hovered at roughly 10 feet for about a minute and was flown again that day. The LLRV’s trials, totaling over 30 flights, were designed to simulate lunar landings and liftoffs, providing critical data for the upcoming Apollo 11 mission. The facility later became the Armstrong Flight Research Center, honoring Neil Armstrong, who also piloted the vehicle.

💡 The LLRV’s experiments validated the landing approach that would enable the first crewed moon landing, proving that Earth‑based simulations could reliably predict lunar operations. Its success laid the groundwork for modern lunar lander testing, ensuring safer missions today.

The rocket scientist who summoned demons: The true horror story of Jack…

In the winter of 1946, rocket pioneer Jack Parsons and aspiring sci‑fi writer L. Ron Hubbard met in California’s Mojave Desert to conduct the “Babalon Working,” a series of Thelemic rituals intended to summon the feminine deity Babalon and manifest an otherworldly entity. Parsons, a self‑taught chemist who helped found the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and laid groundwork for the later Space Race, had been leading the Agape Lodge of Aleister Crowley’s Ordo Templi Orientis since 1943. Hubbard, then unknown as the future founder of Scientology, lived in Parsons’s Pasadena home and was recruited for the occult experiments despite lacking formal magical training. The bizarre collaboration blended cutting‑edge rocketry with ceremonial magic, drawing scholarly interest for its rare intersection of early American space research and esoteric practice.

💡 The episode reveals how the personal mysticism of a key rocketry figure briefly intertwined with the nascent ideas of a future religious movement, offering a unique lens on the cultural currents that shaped mid‑century scientific ambition.

India launches next-gen navigation satellite to orbit (video)

India’s Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) received its third next‑generation satellite, NVS‑03, when a GSLV‑Mark II lifted off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre on Oct. 30 at 14:21 EDT. The launch placed the payload into a geostationary transfer orbit on schedule, marking the 14th flight of the 52‑metre vehicle, which has a 12‑mission success record. NVS‑03 joins three operational NavIC satellites; a fourth is required to deliver full Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) coverage across India and a 1,500 km surrounding region. The satellite’s commissioning will complete the constellation’s core architecture, enhancing regional navigation accuracy and resilience. The mission also follows Skyroot Aerospace’s historic private orbital launch earlier in 2026, underscoring India’s expanding launch capabilities. It also demonstrates ISRO’s ability to sustain launch cadence.

💡 Completing NavIC gives India an independent regional positioning network, reducing reliance on external GPS services.

An aquanaut comes home: Returning to Earth from an undersea ‘space station’

Dr. Michaela Musilova, an award‑winning astrobiologist and seasoned explorer, has returned from a year‑long undersea mission that simulated deep‑space conditions. The expedition, conducted in a purpose‑built oceanic habitat dubbed the “undersea space station,” allowed Musilova and her crew to test life‑support systems, crew dynamics and scientific protocols intended for future lunar and Martian habitats. During the deployment, the team performed microgravity‑like experiments, collected marine biosamples and streamed real‑time data to NASA and ESA partners. Musilova, who previously led 40 simulated Moon and Mars missions, also used the platform to engage schools worldwide through live educational broadcasts. The mission concludes a multi‑year XtremeFrontiers initiative that integrates extreme environments with research, documentary filming and public outreach and inspires the generation of explorers.

💡 Demonstrating complex science in an isolated underwater lab offers a low‑cost, high‑fidelity proving ground that speeds development of sustainable lunar and Martian outposts.

ESI supplying solar array components to missile defense programs

ESI Motion Inc. announced on Oct. 30, 2026 that it will supply its Solar Array Drive Electronics (SADE) to Lockheed Martin for the Space Development Agency’s Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA) programs. The agreement places ESI’s space‑rated SuperNova and Pulsar motor controllers into the satellite network that SDA is building to deliver secure communications, missile‑tracking and other space‑based support for U.S. forces. ESI, a U.S. company with more than two decades of experience serving military, space and industrial customers, says its flight‑heritage technology will meet all mission parameters with high reliability. The SADE units will be integrated as the PWSA architecture progresses, reinforcing the United States’ defensive capabilities in orbit.

💡 By embedding proven motion‑control hardware into the emerging warfighter satellite constellation, the U.S. gains a faster, more resilient space‑based shield for its troops.

Astronauts deploy solar array on 100th US spacewalk by International Space Station…

Two astronauts, NASA’s Anil Menon and CSA’s Joshua Kutryk, completed the 100th U.S. spacewalk by installing and deploying the second‑to‑last International Space Station roll‑out solar array (iROSA). The 7‑hour EVA began and ended in the Quest airlock, with the crew unbolting the 750‑pound array from a Dragon cargo trunk, mounting it on the 2A electrical channel, and extending it to 63 feet using stored potential energy. The new panels boost the ISS power supply by 20‑30 % and support future operations, including the planned 2030 deorbit.

💡 The upgraded solar arrays extend the station’s operational life and enable more complex missions, ensuring reliable power for critical systems as the ISS approaches its decommissioning phase.
