With GTA 6, Rockstar couldn’t “just trot out something” fans would already…

Rockstar Games’ long‑awaited Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and developers say the title will eclipse previous releases in scale and detail. Lead art director Aaron Garbut told Edge Magazine that the studio could not “just trot out something” that merely met fan expectations after a decade of hype and a reportedly massive budget. The open world is said to be roughly the combined size of Rockstar’s earlier games, featuring a sweat system that reacts to character activity, about 600,000 unique animations, and a dedicated writing team for background NPCs. Garbut likened the effort to “building a pyramid on Everest,” emphasizing that no single employee knows the entire project.

💡 The unprecedented ambition promises a new benchmark for interactive realism, forcing competitors to rethink the depth and breadth of open‑world design.

XBOX made generational leaps with each console — So, what happens next?

Microsoft’s Xbox brand is marking its 25th anniversary on November 15 with special hardware, merchandise and themed cosmetics, prompting a retrospective on the console’s hardware evolution. The original Xbox launched in 2001 as a bulky PC‑like machine featuring a 733 MHz Pentium III‑derived CPU, 64 MB DDR RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 3‑based GPU, plus a 8‑10 GB hard drive. The Xbox 360, released in 2005, shifted to a 3.2 GHz dual‑core PowerPC CPU, 512 MB GDDR3 memory and an ATI “Xenos” GPU, while offering varied storage options up to 20 GB. The Xbox One, arriving in 2013, returned to x86‑64 with an octa‑core AMD Jaguar CPU at 1.75 GHz, 8 GB DDR3 RAM and integrated media features, though Kinect failed to gain traction. The current Series X pushes the lineage further with an 18‑nanometer AMD Zen 2 CPU, 16 GB GDDR6, and a custom RDNA 2 GPU, illustrating a dramatic performance leap across three generations.

💡 The hardware trajectory shows how Xbox transformed from a niche PC‑style console into a high‑performance, multimedia hub, redefining Microsoft’s role in the gaming ecosystem.

Activision to remove Itaewon crowd crush footage from Call of Duty: Modern…

Activision announced it will remove real‑world footage of the 2022 Itaewon crowd crush from the opening cinematic of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 after families of the roughly 160 victims demanded its deletion. The publisher issued a Korean‑language apology, saying the clip was included to enhance “realistic immersion” and was never meant to reference the tragedy. A game update scheduled for 12 November will excise the material. South Korean interior minister Yun Ho‑jung called the inclusion “secondary harm” and urged authorities to consider sanctions, arguing that using a disaster for entertainment breaches human ethics. The controversy also prompted criticism from bereaved‑family groups and the Citizens Countermeasure Meeting, who had earlier called for removal. Activision pledged to review future content vetting processes.

💡 The backlash forces developers to balance immersive storytelling with respect for real‑world suffering, tightening scrutiny of source material.
