Movie magic didn’t die with The Odyssey, as Dune 3 features a 55-ton spaceship that was built just for the first scene
AI-summarised brief · reviewed before publication
Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming film Dune: Part Three will feature a 55‑ton spaceship built solely for its opening battle scene, according to production designer Patrice Vermette. The massive set, constructed at SCAD Savannah Film Festival, required daily crane lifts, a pumping system, and a rain rig to simulate underground conditions. Vermette emphasized that every prop must serve the story and avoid repetition, aligning with Villeneuve’s directive to create unique, grounded environments. The ship appears in the latest trailer, hinting at a grand finale released December 18.
💡 Why It Matters
- · By investing in a single, tangible set, the film challenges the trend toward digital-only worlds, underscoring a commitment to practical effects that can enhance audience immersion.
