Windows 11 won’t make you wait for face unlock to fail before…

Microsoft released Windows 11 Insider Experimental Build 26340.9882 on November 6, introducing a change to the sign‑in experience that displays the PIN entry field while Windows Hello continues to scan a face or fingerprint. Previously, users had to wait for facial recognition to succeed or fail, or manually select “Sign‑in options” to type a PIN, adding extra clicks especially in dim lighting or when the sensor was obstructed. The new build shows the prompt “Look at the camera or enter your PIN,” allowing whichever method works first to be used instantly. The update also streamlines failed face attempts by offering a “Retry face sign‑in” button and places the PIN box beneath combined camera/fingerprint prompts on devices with multiple sensors. The feature arrives without requiring registry tweaks, though it remains limited to Insider participants and experimental builds may contain bugs.

💡 Faster credential entry reduces friction for users in low‑light or wet‑finger scenarios, improving daily productivity without compromising Windows Hello’s security model.

Every Windows 11 app should kill Electron, and Discord just showed why:…

Discord’s new Rust‑based Windows 11 client launches faster than the legacy Electron version, loading the friends list before the Electron app exits its “Starting” screen. A 15‑second clip posted by CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy shows the Rust build opening in under a second and using only 290.2 MB of RAM while two accounts are signed in—about 70 % less than the Electron app’s typical 1‑2 GB idle usage. The Rust client also skips the startup modal, auto‑updating in the background. Discord confirmed both apps were cold‑started during the test.

💡 The shift to Rust demonstrates Discord’s commitment to performance and resource efficiency, potentially setting a new standard for desktop messaging apps. By eliminating the Electron framework, Discord reduces memory footprint and startup latency, directly improving user experience on Windows 11.

Windows 11 users won’t get Windows 12 in 2027, just a new…

Microsoft is preparing Windows 11 version 27H2, slated for 2027, as a full operating‑system swap rather than a modest enablement update like 25H2 and 26H2. The upcoming release will merge two divergent code branches—one for standard PCs and another for Snapdragon X, X2 and RTX Spark devices—requiring a comprehensive overhaul of the OS core. Since March, Microsoft has been overhauling the taskbar, Start menu, Search, File Explorer, and memory management, while scaling back Copilot integration. Insiders are already testing experimental builds, and the company hints that the “Windows 12” brand may still be under consideration, though no official announcement has been made. The 27H2 update aims to boost performance, reliability, and overall user experience across a billion Windows 11 devices.

💡 A full‑OS refresh in 2027 will finally align fragmented Windows 11 platforms, delivering a unified, faster experience for both traditional PCs and emerging ARM‑based hardware.

After Steam and Epic Launcher upgrade their startup times, Xbox PC app…

Xbox announced a performance overhaul for its Windows PC app, cutting launch time from over 15 seconds to just above five seconds—a speed boost of up to 60 percent. The update, unveiled by CEO Asha Sharma on Twitter with a demonstration video, aims to make the Xbox app more responsive and competitive with Steam and the Epic Games Store, both of which recently reduced their own startup times to between 5.2 and 7 seconds. The new figure of roughly 5.2 seconds positions the Xbox client at the forefront of the three-way race for the fastest launcher. Sharma described the change as a “meaningful improvement” and hinted that further optimizations are planned as part of Xbox’s broader focus on the PC ecosystem.

💡 Faster launch times directly improve user experience, giving Xbox a tangible edge in attracting PC gamers who prioritize quick access to their libraries. This performance push signals Microsoft’s intent to strengthen its foothold in the PC gaming market.

Microsoft swears Windows 11 isn’t “less secure,” even as 1,100+ security fixes…

Microsoft released more than 1,000 security fixes for Windows in October 2026, totaling 1,413 CVEs across its portfolio. The company warned that delaying updates increases exposure, noting attackers can exploit patches within hours using AI. Jeremy Chapman, director of Microsoft 365 security, urged users to install updates promptly and stopped recommending a three‑day deferral. Monthly Windows‑only patches have risen sharply year‑over‑year, with October 2026 showing 1,123 fixes versus 134 in 2025, a 738 % increase. Microsoft attributes the surge to AI‑driven vulnerability discovery, which it says improves both detection and remediation speed. The firm maintains that a higher CVE count reflects deeper code analysis, not a decline in Windows security, and stresses the need for rapid deployment across enterprise and consumer PCs.

💡 The rapid AI‑enabled discovery cycle turns Windows into a moving target, forcing organizations to shrink patch windows or face near‑real‑time exploitation.

Microsoft is betting on native WinUI over web app slop across Windows…

Microsoft’s PowerToys suite received version 0.102 on October 21, moving the Color Picker and Text Extractor utilities from WPF to native WinUI 3. The migration introduced a redesigned overlay, editor and magnifier for Color Picker and a new borderless‑window snipping system for Text Extractor, while extracting OCR logic into a PowerOCR.Core library. This update follows earlier transitions of Keyboard Manager, Image Resizer, Quick Accent and Mouse Jump, bringing the total of WinUI 3‑based tools to six this year and 17 utilities overall. Microsoft tracks remaining WPF components such as FancyZones, Workspaces and PowerToys Run in a GitHub issue, estimating that shift could shave up to 138 MB from the installer. Effort aligns with the push for the native Windows 11 experiences over web‑based alternatives.

💡 By consolidating its utility suite onto WinUI 3, Microsoft is cementing a unified, lightweight UI foundation that can accelerate future feature rollouts and reduce maintenance overhead.
