AI-summarised brief · reviewed before publication

Apple is reportedly preparing a major redesign for the 2027 iPhone Pro models, coinciding with the device’s 20th anniversary. Leaked images suggest the new phones will feature quad‑curved, near‑bezel‑free displays and larger screen sizes. According to Instant Digital’s Weibo post, the redesign will eliminate the Action button that debuted on the iPhone Duo, while retaining a dedicated Camera Control button. The Camera Control button will continue to open the camera with a short press, and a long press is expected to replicate the Action button’s multifunctional capabilities. The change follows mixed reactions to the Action button’s removal on the Duo, with some users preferring its versatility over the new camera shortcut.

💡 Why It Matters

· By merging camera shortcuts with the Action button’s functions, Apple streamlines one‑handed use while reshaping how users interact with core iPhone hardware.

Apple says there are already over 100,000 apps built for iPhone Duo

Apple announced that more than 100,000 apps on the App Store are now optimized for its newly launched iPhone Duo, a foldable device introduced two weeks ago. Vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations Susan Prescott highlighted that thousands of additional apps are being added daily, and that over 2,000 developers have participated in more than 50 in‑person workshops across 19 cities worldwide. Apple is promoting Duo‑ready software through curated collections such as “Popular Apps on iPhone Duo” and a “Made for iPhone Duo” badge. Early adopters include Microsoft Word, Outlook, Zoom, Etsy, and Halide Mark III, with many apps receiving further refinements for both inner and outer displays since launch. The rapid uptake underscores strong developer enthusiasm for the foldable platform.

💡 The swift developer response proves the iPhone Duo can quickly achieve a robust ecosystem, a hurdle that has stalled many previous foldable attempts.

iOS 27.2 adds Apple Photos invisible watermark feature, here’s how it works

iOS 27.2, released last week, introduces an invisible watermarking system to Apple Photos that embeds SynthID identifiers in images altered or generated with Apple’s AI tools. The feature activates when users employ AI‑powered edits such as Clean Up, Extend, or Spatial Reframing on existing photos, as well as when they create new pictures in Image Playground. The watermark is not visible in the picture itself; it can only be detected with a SynthID scanner, which Apple directs users to access at synthid.com. The same functionality rolls out concurrently to iPadOS 27.2, macOS 27.2, and visionOS 27.2, extending the protection across Apple’s entire device ecosystem. Apple’s documentation notes that the watermark applies to both AI‑generated and AI‑enhanced content, aiming to preserve provenance in an era of synthetic media.

💡 By embedding traceable metadata directly into edited images, Apple gives creators a built‑in method to prove authenticity, countering the growing risk of AI‑fabricated visual misinformation.

How to dim or turn off the glowing Apple logo on the…

Apple has revived the iconic glowing white Apple logo on the lid of its new MacBook Pro models equipped with the Pro LED XDR display. Unlike the legacy version that used an LCD backlight, the current logo is an OLED‑based light whose brightness is linked to the main screen’s brightness. Users cannot disable it through System Settings, but Apple’s support documentation provides a Terminal command—`sudo defaults write com.apple.CoreBrightness LEBacklightMode -int 0`—that turns the logo off permanently across all accounts. The setting can be reverted with `sudo defaults delete com.apple.CoreBrightness LEBacklightMode`, and a macOS reinstall will restore the glow. Dimming the display also reduces logo brightness, though it is impractical for most workflows. The workaround requires admin rights and a restart to apply immediately.

💡 The hidden toggle illustrates Apple’s tension between iconic branding and user autonomy, exposing a rarely known avenue for deep macOS customization.

Democrat orders Apple to disclose details of Trump ballroom donation

The Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, now led by Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal, has asked major tech firms—including Apple, Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft and Nvidia—to provide documentation on their contributions to the Trump‑planned White House ballroom. The request follows reports that Apple donated $25 million to the project and comes after the 2026 midterm elections gave Democrats greater oversight power. Blumenthal warned that while the current request is voluntary, firms could face subpoenas when he assumes formal leadership in January 2027. The senator previously wrote to the companies in 2025 about similar donations, receiving little response. He also urged FCC Chair Brendan Carr to reveal details of media‑consolidation decisions, threatening alternative enforcement measures if compliance is not achieved.

💡 The probe could force unprecedented disclosure of corporate political spending, exposing how tech giants financially supported a former administration and testing the new Democratic majority’s ability to enforce accountability.

iOS 27.2 adds three new ways to customize your iPhone

Apple released iOS 27.2 last week, adding three personalization tools for iPhone users. A new “Excluded Apps” list in Settings → Siri lets owners prevent selected apps from appearing in Siri queries, Spotlight search and suggestion ribbons, addressing privacy and misrecognition concerns. The Messages app now shows contextual “Suggestions” beneath relevant chats, such as an “Add to Reminders” prompt when a request is detected; users can toggle five suggestion categories in Settings → Apps → Messages → Suggested Actions. Finally, iOS 27.2 extends Apple TV profiles to iPhone, enabling separate recommendation feeds, individualized “Continue Watching” queues, and child‑specific content limits within the Apple TV app. These features aim to tighten control over AI assistance and media consumption on the device. The update also refines battery‑usage reporting and supports faster FaceTime connections globally.

💡 By letting users gate AI access and separate viewing profiles, Apple gives individuals granular privacy and family‑friendly controls directly on their phone.

Apple’s bond sale is now confirmed at $7.5 billion

Apple’s latest bond offering has been confirmed in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, detailing a $7.5 billion issuance that Apple expects to net about $7.47 billion after costs. The company will sell seven series of debt maturing between 2028 and 2036, including $500 million of floating‑rate notes and $1 billion of fixed‑rate notes at 4.65 % for 2028, $750 million floating and $1 billion fixed at 4.75 % for 2029, $1 billion fixed at 4.90 % for 2031, $1.25 billion fixed at 5.10 % for 2033, and $2 billion fixed at 5.35 % for 2036. Floating‑rate bonds will track the Secured Overnight Financing Rate, adjusted quarterly. Apple says proceeds will fund corporate purposes, including share repurchases, dividends, working capital, expenditures, acquisitions and debt repayment, though no allocation breakdown is provided.

💡 By locking in a mix of fixed and floating rates, Apple secures cheap financing to sustain its aggressive capital return program while preserving flexibility for future investments.
