New footage from the set of “Miami Vice ‘85” shows Austin Butler as Sonny Crockett and Michael B. Jordan as Ricardo Tubbs driving a white Ferrari Testarossa, a departure from the original series’ black 1972 Daytona Spyder. The change follows a legal dispute in which Ferrari sued the replica builder for trademark infringement, ultimately settling and donating authentic Testarossas to the production. The film, directed by Joseph Konsinski, will shift to Miami after hurricane season and premiere in theaters, including IMAX, on May 19, 2028.

💡 Why It Matters

· The switch underscores how intellectual‑property battles can reshape period‑film authenticity, forcing studios to balance legal compliance with audience expectations.

Former PlayStation Boss Says Sony Doesn’t Need a ‘PS6 for $1,200,’ It…

Former PlayStation chief Shawn Layden criticized Sony’s plan to launch a pricey PS6, arguing that true innovation would come from producing a cheaper PS5 variant. He highlighted the steep price hikes for current PS5 models—$649 for the base, $599 digital, and $899 Pro—and urged Sony to reduce costs instead of iterating hardware. Layden cited past console pricing trends and the need to keep silicon and software unchanged while cutting size and price. Sony’s next console launch remains uncertain, with potential delays to 2028 or 2029.

💡 Sony’s pricing strategy directly affects consumer adoption and competitive positioning in a market where high costs are eroding sales. A shift toward a more affordable console could revive demand and counter the backlash over disc removal.

Android tablets are back, but are they for you?

Android tablets are experiencing a resurgence after years of stagnation, with manufacturers releasing a range of new models that span from compact OLED devices to massive 14.6‑inch screens. The trend is driven by flagship‑tier hardware, such as Redmagic’s Astra 2, Lenovo’s Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 with a 4K panel, and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S Ultra series, while Amazon has entered the market with its Google Play‑enabled Alexa Tablet lineup, including a 12‑inch “Pro” variant. Prices vary widely, from the $550 Alexa Tablet 12 Pro to the $1,400 Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra plus a $200 keyboard, reflecting differing target audiences. Reviewers note that larger tablets often aim to replace laptops for portable productivity, though many users still prefer 10‑ to 11‑inch devices for travel and battery life. The upcoming Motorola Signature 27, priced at $1,599, adds another high‑end option to the US market.

💡 Consumers now have genuine alternatives to laptops for on‑the‑go work, forcing a shift in how mobile productivity is priced and packaged.

Ninja’s AutoBarista is impressively versatile, but one feature was a dealbreaker for…

Ninja’s AutoBarista is a $999.99 all‑in‑one coffee system that automates grind size, dose, tamp pressure and water temperature through its “Grind iQ” sensor, allowing users to select from 13 drink recipes with a single button. The unit combines a drip coffee maker, espresso boiler, automatic milk frother (including plant‑based settings), built‑in grinder, scale and a knock‑box for spent pucks. It rinses itself before and after each brew, and can produce hot espresso drinks, cold‑brew style espresso, and latte‑type beverages. Reviewers praise the quality of the drinks and the convenience of the integrated frother, but note practical drawbacks: the drip tray fills quickly and can overflow, and the knock‑box can develop mold if not emptied regularly. The machine targets coffee lovers who prefer convenience over manual control.

💡 It proves high‑priced, fully automated espresso makers can deliver café‑level variety at home, yet still hinge on routine maintenance that can deter busy users.

iPhone Air 2 is coming next year, here’s why it has more…

Apple is slated to unveil the second‑generation iPhone Air in spring, adding a dual‑camera system and a larger battery to address the original model’s shortcomings. The first iPhone Air, praised for its ultra‑thin chassis, suffered from limited sales due to a high price, mono speaker, USB 2 connectivity, modest fast‑charging rates, and a single‑lens camera lacking RAW, cinematic and macro modes. Analysts expect the Air 2 to incorporate acoustic‑display speaker technology from the iPad mini 8, upgrade to USB 3, and support faster MagSafe charging comparable to Pro models. By narrowing the feature gap with the iPhone 18 Pro while retaining a slim profile, Apple aims to broaden the device’s appeal beyond niche enthusiasts. Pricing is to be within $100 of the Pro, challenging value perception.

💡 By tightening the spec gap with its Pro line, Apple forces consumers to weigh design thinness against flagship performance, a trade‑off that could reshape mid‑range pricing strategies.

Hands-on: I tested a bunch of iPhone Duo cases, these are my…

The launch of Apple’s iPhone Duo has sparked a surge of innovative cases, ranging from ultra‑thin shells to magnetic kickstands and integrated wallets. Reviewer hands‑on tests highlighted five standout options. Baseus offers a $29 case with a rotating magnetic kickstand and hinge coverage but leaves the front display exposed. Aulumu’s $89 ADOU case prioritises minimal bulk and uses a residue‑free adhesive, though it lacks extra features and hinge protection. Smartish’s Wallet Slayer, starting at $39, embeds a four‑card wallet directly into the case, sacrificing MagSafe charging compatibility. UAG’s $84 Mouve case adds a hex‑shaped, stable kickstand and reinforced corners for rugged protection. Finally, MOFT’s magnetic folding cover provides a versatile stand without rail protection, emphasizing simplicity and creative design.

💡 The diverse case ecosystem shows how accessory makers are quickly adapting to foldable phones, turning a new hardware format into a platform for differentiated user experiences.

Amazon’s new basic Kindle proves you don’t need all the bells and…

Amazon unveiled a refreshed Kindle lineup in October, marking its first major design overhaul in years. The new range features edge‑to‑edge screens, thinner and lighter Paperwhite and Colorsoft models, and accessories such as a Bluetooth remote and magnetic cover with page‑turn buttons. Due to a global memory‑chip shortage linked to the AI boom, prices rose $40‑$50 across the series, making the 6‑inch entry‑level Kindle the most affordable option at $169.99 ad‑free. The basic Kindle lacks warm light, color, auto‑brightness, waterproofing, and has a shorter six‑week battery life, but it is 11 % lighter, 14 % thinner, and sports a flush‑front screen and 300 ppi display. It also gains USB‑C, up to 32 GB storage, and a faster UI, with an optional aluminum body in new colors.

💡 The upgrade proves Amazon can still add meaningful hardware value to its budget e‑reader, keeping the Kindle ecosystem attractive despite price pressures and supply‑chain constraints.
