OpenAI buys smartphone camera maker Glass Imaging for $300 million, report says
OpenAI has acquired Glass Imaging, a Los Altos startup that builds AI‑enhanced smartphone cameras, for more than $300 million, according to the Wall Street Journal. Founded in 2019 by former Apple engineers Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop—who helped create Apple’s Portrait Mode—Glass Imaging trains neural networks on the specific optics of each phone model to improve image quality at the moment of capture, rather than applying post‑processing.
