iOS 27.2 beta 4 no longer includes Apple’s overhauled Health app

Apple’s iOS 27.2 developer beta 4 omits the previously announced overhauled Health app, reverting to the earlier version. The app, first added in beta 1 and public betas 1 and 2, introduced features such as health age and lab scheduling with Quest Diagnostics. The beta 4 release restores the prior sharing section, replacing the longevity feature, and confirms that health data entered during testing will be retained. Apple maintains that the Health app upgrade will appear in a future release, likely iOS 27.3 later this year.

💡 The delay signals Apple’s cautious approach to integrating complex health features, underscoring the company’s commitment to data integrity and user experience before a public rollout.

HomeView doesn’t play video apps natively, you still need an iPhone or…

Apple’s new HomeView device cannot run Apple TV or other video apps natively, requiring a CarPlay connection to an iPhone or iPad for playback. Only four Apple apps—Apple TV, Apple Books audiobooks, Apple Music Classical, and Apple News+—must be launched on a phone and streamed via AirPlay. The HomeView lacks an App Store and even limits Apple’s own services, contradicting its marketing claim of full entertainment. Apple’s reliance on CarPlay for media access underscores the device’s restricted functionality.

💡 The HomeView’s inability to host core Apple media apps directly signals a strategic shift toward tethered experiences, potentially reshaping how consumers interact with home entertainment ecosystems.

IDC: Apple gains ground as China’s smartphone shipments plunge 15.4% in Q3…

IDC’s latest data shows Apple’s share of Chinese smartphone shipments rose to 17.8% in Q3 2026, up from 15.8% a year earlier, even as iPhone shipments fell 4.3% year‑over‑year and 15.1% from the prior quarter. Overall Chinese smartphone sales dropped 15.4%, yet Apple’s decline was less steep than competitors, boosting its market share. Huawei led the market with a 17.3% year‑over‑year increase, reaching 21.1% share, while Lenovo and Honor recorded modest growth. Component costs remain high, pressuring prices and replacement cycles.

💡 Apple’s ability to grow market share amid a shrinking market signals stronger brand resilience and pricing power in China’s toughest smartphone segment. The shift highlights how premium positioning can offset broader industry downturns.

Apple HomeView lacks VESA support, limiting your wall mount options

Apple unveiled the HomeView, a $299 smart‑home hub that can be used with a speaker stand or mounted on a wall. The device lacks VESA screw holes, limiting standard wall‑mount options. Apple offers two proprietary mounts— a $59.95 Power Mount for plug‑in use and a $79.95 hardwired version that may require an electrician—both made with Schneider Home. A future $129.95 Power‑over‑Ethernet mount is planned, but third‑party mounts are not yet available.

💡 The HomeView’s absence of VESA compatibility forces consumers to rely on Apple’s limited mounting solutions, potentially delaying adoption for users who prefer DIY or custom wall‑mount setups.
