WhatsApp adds shareable event invites and a new Events hub

WhatsApp has expanded its Events feature, allowing users to create shareable invites with cover photos, QR codes, and email or text links. Guests can view details and RSVP without a WhatsApp account or app download, and their phone numbers remain hidden unless they RSVP. The update introduces a dedicated Events section in Settings for managing invites, RSVPs, reminders, and plus‑one options, and it will roll out to all users over the coming weeks.

💡 By enabling non‑users to join events, WhatsApp broadens its reach beyond its existing user base, positioning the platform as a more inclusive event‑planning tool. This move could reshape how people coordinate gatherings, especially during holiday seasons.

Subscription apps will get another chance to talk you out of cancelling

Apple has re‑announced its subscription retention message API, now allowing developers to receive real‑time alerts when a user lands on a cancellation page, even before the Cancel button is tapped. The alert includes the user’s location and the original transaction ID, enabling developers to push a tailored retention offer in the appropriate language and currency. The feature, first launched in July 2025, originally only triggered after a Cancel tap; the new capability expands the timing of the prompt. Developers must opt‑in to use the API, and any retention flow must still present clear options to Cancel, Keep the subscription, or accept a discount. Apple’s renewed promotion suggests it aims to boost subscription longevity while giving users more context‑aware offers.

💡 Real‑time, location‑aware prompts let apps intervene earlier, increasing the chance to convert a churn attempt into a retained subscriber.

Microsoft just gave you another reason to stick with Outlook Classic, faster…

Microsoft has enhanced Outlook Classic’s search by adding a relevance‑ranked set that can display up to seven top results, replacing the previous limit of three. The update also enables Outlook Classic to fall back to Windows Search when cloud search is slow or offline, improving reliability for locally stored emails and attachments. These changes are rolling out immediately, while similar features for New Outlook remain in development. The update aims to make email retrieval faster and more accurate across Microsoft’s Outlook ecosystem.

💡 By leveraging local indexing, Outlook Classic now guarantees search results even without cloud connectivity, a critical advantage for users who rely on offline access or have large PST archives. This shift underscores Microsoft’s focus on robust, hybrid search capabilities that could influence how future Outlook versions balance cloud and local data handling.

Google is redesigning Messages again, and heavy texters might hate it

Google Messages has introduced a new home‑screen layout that places pinned conversations in a dedicated, larger area above the regular message list, resembling iMessage’s design. The change, currently in beta, expands pinned chat visibility but pushes recent messages further down, requiring more scrolling. Early testers report mixed reactions: some praise the clearer pin placement, while others find the interface cluttered and note issues such as an empty placeholder when few chats are pinned. Google is also testing a floating search button, but a stable release date remains unannounced.

💡 The redesign signals Google’s push to compete with iOS aesthetics, potentially reshaping user expectations for Android messaging interfaces. It also highlights the tension between visual appeal and functional efficiency in app design.
