Apple’s new iPhone Duo features the largest display ever in an iPhone lineup, surpassing the iPhone 18 Pro Max. A side‑by‑side video posted by @thetechchap shows the Duo’s unfolded width nearly matching the Pro Max’s longest side, while its 4.64‑inch height exceeds the Pro Max’s 3.07‑inch width. The Duo’s 6.48‑inch width and 6.43‑inch height are comparable to the Pro Max’s dimensions, yet its folding design allows it to collapse into a more compact, one‑handed form. Apple says it’s tightening macOS ‘Full Disk Access’ controls due to new…

Apple announced new restrictions on macOS’s “Full Disk Access” setting after reports that AI agents, such as Meta’s Muse, could read private messages without explicit permission. The feature, originally intended to support backups, now poses heightened risks as desktop AI gains broader file and messaging access. Apple will require more explicit user action to grant this level of permission, citing increased threats from autonomous AI agents. The change follows a Wired report of a ChatGPT Mac app flaw that could expose sensitive data.

💡 The move underscores the growing need for tighter safeguards around AI-driven applications that can access personal data, reshaping how developers and users manage privacy on desktop platforms.

iOS 27’s Siri gets one thing very right that other AI assistants…

Apple released iOS 27 with a substantially upgraded Siri AI, offering more accurate responses and broader functionality than its predecessor. The assistant emphasizes its identity as a tool, explicitly stating it is AI and acknowledging potential errors, avoiding the overly human-like persona seen in competitors such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini. Users report Siri’s concise, task-focused interactions and its refusal to simulate personal relationships. The update marks a deliberate design choice prioritizing transparency and utility over anthropomorphism.

💡 By foregrounding its artificial nature, Apple sets a clearer boundary for user expectations, reducing the risk of misplaced trust in AI systems. This stance could influence industry norms around AI transparency and user safety.

‘HomePad’ coming: Will Apple hold an October special event?

Apple is expected to unveil a suite of new devices on Tuesday, October 13, according to Bloomberg, including the long‑rumored HomePad smart‑home hub, an updated HomePod mini, and a Siri‑powered Apple TV 4K. The company has a mixed track record for October announcements; since 2010 it has held ten formal events, the latest being the “Scary Fast” Halloween show on October 30, 2023, but often announces products via press releases. If Apple opts for a live event, analysts predict an invitation could be sent as early as Monday, October 5, and no later than Wednesday, October 7. The rollout may also feature an OLED iPad mini, new iMacs and MacBook Pros slated for 2026, though it is unclear whether those will appear at the same gathering or be disclosed separately.

💡 The timing could set the stage for Apple’s first major hardware push of the fiscal year, testing consumer appetite for a broader smart‑home ecosystem alongside its core product lines.

Apple moves to protect private Mac data from overreaching AI apps

Apple announced new restrictions on Full Disk Access for Mac apps, requiring explicit user consent before granting this powerful permission. The move follows incidents where AI agents, such as Meta’s Muse and OpenAI’s Mac app, accessed sensitive data—including messages, email, files, and browsing history—without users’ full awareness. Apple’s updated developer guidelines will make it clear that only apps truly needing deep system access can obtain it, aiming to protect users and their contacts from potential privacy breaches. The rollout date remains unspecified.

💡 By tightening Full Disk Access, Apple forces developers to justify deep system permissions, reducing the risk of AI agents silently harvesting personal data and safeguarding the privacy of both users and their contacts.

Apple confirms iPhone 18 Pro Max AT&T cellular issues, affected devices require…

Apple confirmed that a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max units on AT&T lose cellular service due to a Qualcomm modem issue. The company released iOS 27.0.1 and a carrier‑settings update to prevent further outages, which will download automatically within 14 days. Devices already affected cannot be restored by software and must receive a hardware replacement. Users should contact Apple Support, AT&T, or visit a store for repair. The iPhone 18 Pro, using Apple’s C2 modem, is unaffected.

💡 The fix underscores the critical role of firmware in mitigating hardware‑level network failures, a rare scenario for a flagship launch. It also highlights the need for carriers and manufacturers to coordinate rapid patches to protect consumer trust.
