Honda Wants to Put a Robotic Lab Assistant on Future Commercial Space…

Honda is partnering with space‑infrastructure firm Redwire to create an automated laboratory support system for future commercial space stations. The joint effort combines Redwire’s Space Technology Autonomous Agile Robotic Kit (STAARK), which provides a reaching and motion platform, with Honda’s expertise in precise robotic manipulation and gripping. The system aims to reduce the time astronauts spend on routine tasks such as inventory checks and sample handling, thereby freeing them for higher‑value scientific work. As NASA decommissions the ISS, private operators like Axiom, Vast, and Orbital Reef will rely on such automation to maintain continuous research aboard smaller, crew‑light stations.

💡 By automating routine lab tasks, the partnership could dramatically increase scientific output on commercial stations, making microgravity research more efficient and cost‑effective.

Quobly and SiPearl Form Partnership to Integrate European ARM CPUs and Silicon…

French silicon spin‑qubit developer Quobly and European HPC processor designer SiPearl signed a Memorandum of Understanding to assess system‑level integration of SiPearl’s 80‑core ARM‑based Rhea1 CPU with Quobly’s silicon QPU hardware. The non‑exclusive MoU initiates a technical feasibility study that underpins Quobly’s Alloyquantum product line, aiming for hybrid CPU‑QPU co‑design and unified European sovereign hardware. The partnership will interface Rhea1 with Quobly’s QPU control stack and cryogenic electronics, leveraging STMicroelectronics’ 300 mm FD‑SOI platform. Both companies plan joint proposals under EU funding schemes, including the Chips Joint Undertaking, to accelerate European HPC‑quantum infrastructure.

💡 By linking a mainstream ARM CPU to a silicon‑based quantum coprocessor, the deal could create the first fully European‑sourced quantum‑enhanced supercomputing stack, reducing reliance on non‑European supply chains.

AI rebrand unlikely to win over sceptical public, experts warn

A corporate‑government partnership marked National Book Week by donating three fully equipped libraries to South African schools, including Thongwana High School. The initiative, led by Container Library, delivered shelves, books, computers and furniture to support reading and digital learning. Officials highlighted the collaboration as part of a broader effort to improve educational resources in under‑served areas. The donated libraries aim to boost student engagement, provide safe study spaces, and foster community involvement in literacy programs. The rollout coincided with a national campaign encouraging reading, and organizers expect the facilities to serve as hubs for extracurricular activities and teacher training. The partnership underscores a growing trend of private sector involvement in public education infrastructure.

💡 By turning schools into resource hubs, the donations directly address the scarcity of learning materials that hampers student achievement in disadvantaged regions.
