New MacBook Pro redesign details revealed ahead of launch

Apple unveiled the new M6 MacBook Pro today, while a high‑end redesign is set for release tomorrow. Mark Gurman disclosed that the upcoming model will feature a noticeably thinner chassis, slimmer bezels, and a lighter overall weight. A key design improvement is a revamped hinge, intended to prevent screen rocking during touch use, addressing earlier reports of hinge‑related display cracks. The redesigned MacBook Pro will also introduce an OLED XDR touch display, replace the notch with a hole‑punch cutout, and include Dynamic Island. The device is expected to run M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

💡 The hinge upgrade tackles a known durability issue, potentially boosting user confidence in Apple’s premium laptops. The OLED touch display and Dynamic Island integration signal a shift toward more interactive, high‑resolution MacBook experiences.

M6 vs M4: How two years and two chip generations change Apple…

In August 2026 Apple launched the M6, its new entry‑level silicon, debuting in the Mac mini and later expanding to MacBook Pro and iMac. The M6 uses a 2‑nanometer process, packing 46 billion transistors versus the M4’s 28 billion on a 3‑nanometer die. It adds two “super” cores, raising peak clock speeds to 4.79 GHz and boosting memory bandwidth to 170 GB/s, while still supporting 16–32 GB of unified memory. The upgrade targets AI and machine‑learning workloads, positioning the M6 as a powerful, energy‑efficient successor.

💡 The M6’s denser process and extra cores give Apple a clear edge in AI performance, reshaping the competitive landscape for low‑power, high‑throughput chips. Its higher bandwidth also enhances media and professional workflows, making it a compelling upgrade for current M4 users.

iOS 26 can run on an Android phone, and a developer proved…

Developer SmuOS (None24) successfully booted Apple’s iOS 26 natively on Microsoft’s discontinued Surface Duo 2, a dual‑screen Android device powered by a Snapdragon 888. The port uses the open‑source XNU kernel and a custom UEFI loader, enabling full touch and dual‑screen functionality; the Phone and Settings apps span both displays, and the device reports itself as an “iPhone 17 Pro Max.” The achievement demonstrates that iOS can run on non‑Apple ARM hardware, showcasing the flexibility of Apple’s open‑source kernel.

💡 The port shows that Apple’s operating system is not strictly bound to its own silicon, hinting at broader hardware compatibility possibilities. It also underscores the growing influence of community-driven projects in expanding the reach of proprietary platforms.

iOS 27.2 adds new Messages feature that’s already a favorite

iOS 27.2 released this week, adding the long‑delayed Messages feature “Suggestions.” The feature offers one‑tap actions—such as adding items to Reminders, Notes, or Calendar—based on conversation context. Apple refined the algorithm to reduce irrelevant prompts, and users can now customize which categories appear via Settings → Apps → Messages → Suggested Actions. The update restores a previously postponed AI‑assisted tool that streamlines everyday tasks directly within the Messages app.

💡 By tightening relevance, Apple turns a convenient productivity aid into a reliable assistant, reducing user frustration and encouraging broader adoption of in‑app automation.
