Apple to Start Scanning Publicly Shared iCloud Photos and Files for Harmful…

Apple announced that starting with iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3, and visionOS 27.3, the company will scan publicly shared iCloud links for harmful content. The feature applies when users share photos or files via “Anyone with the link,” which disables end‑to‑end encryption even if Advanced Data Protection is enabled. Apple warned that harmful uploads may be removed and accounts could be blocked or reported to law enforcement. The policy’s scope, definition of harmful content, and retroactive application remain unclear.

💡 By inspecting shared links, Apple expands its content‑moderation reach beyond its own platforms, potentially reshaping privacy expectations for users who rely on public sharing. The move signals a broader industry trend toward proactive content filtering in cloud services.

Resident Evil director Zach Cregger explains why the iPhone is vital to…

Resident Evil director Zach Cregger revealed that his iPhone is a core tool for pre‑production, using it to create photo boards that map out each shot with the professional lenses he plans to use. By capturing stills on the phone, he can plan camera angles, lens choices, and framing before filming, ensuring a precise visual plan. Cregger emphasizes that the iPhone’s sensor is the source of the footage, not just a planning aid, and that anyone can produce a film with a phone in hand.

💡 Cregger’s method shows how mobile technology can streamline filmmaking workflows, reducing reliance on costly gear and making high‑quality production more accessible.

HomeView will support third-party AI chatbots, suggests code

Code uncovered in the iOS 27.3 beta indicates that Apple’s HomeView platform will soon support third‑party conversational AI assistants such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini. The discovery follows earlier leaker hints about an unused “ConversationalApps” flag and is confirmed by a new beta snippet showing PebblePlay—the CarPlay bridge for HomeView—assigned to the Conversational Apps category. The update also introduces bidirectional audio routing, session management and interruption handling, laying groundwork for full integration. Although the feature is not yet fully wired, Apple’s flag system suggests it will regulate which AI apps can run on HomeView, similar to its CarPlay controls. The same leak hints at future HomeKit security‑camera capabilities for HomeView.

💡 Enabling popular AI chatbots on HomeView could turn the hub into a central voice‑controlled command center, expanding Apple’s smart‑home ecosystem beyond its current closed‑loop model.

Nintendo Switch games running natively on Apple TV using Claude Code port

A Reddit user known as FloatingFalafel has released an open‑source project called TVport that recompiles Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 game binaries to run natively on Apple TV hardware. Using a fork of the nxnative toolchain, the developer has successfully ported Super Mario Odyssey, which runs at 60 fps with minor stutter and audio glitches, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which runs at 30 fps without issues; work continues on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, currently limited to 30 fps and thermal throttling that the author mitigates with a 75 % render scale and planned MetalFX upscaling. The ports require a 4th‑gen Apple TV with 8 GB RAM for full compatibility, though the two released titles also function on 3rd‑gen models. The effort joins other community projects, such as Nativecade’s Nintendo 64 ports, expanding the console‑free gaming possibilities on Apple’s streaming device.

💡 By turning Apple TV into a handheld‑grade Switch emulator, hobbyists are blurring the line between dedicated consoles and media players, opening a new niche for retro‑style gaming on mainstream streaming hardware.
