Apple Intelligence reportedly coming to China in December, but without Siri AI

Apple plans to launch Apple Intelligence in China in December as part of an iOS 27.3 update, but the rollout will omit the new Siri AI assistant and several other features. The move follows Chinese regulators’ approval of Alibaba’s AI models to power the service, after Apple secured permits in September. The Chinese version will include Genmoji, AI‑summarized notifications, writing tools, and a photo cleanup feature, while image‑generation tools remain unavailable. Apple’s partnership with Alibaba and Baidu reflects concessions to meet local AI content and security regulations.

💡 The delayed, pared‑down launch underscores how regulatory hurdles can stall even established tech giants, forcing Apple to tailor its AI offerings to fit China’s strict oversight. This strategy may influence the competitive balance in a market where domestic brands already dominate with advanced AI features.

OpenAI agrees not to use alleged Apple trade secrets amid ongoing lawsuit

During a hearing, OpenAI agreed not to use Apple’s alleged trade secrets while the lawsuit continues. The settlement follows Apple’s claim that a former employee took over 100 confidential files related to unreleased hardware. Judge Edward Davila indicated a preliminary injunction was likely, prompting OpenAI to voluntarily restrict use of the disputed information and to collect forensic images from 14 employees. The judge will enforce the agreement, and Apple will limit inspections to a small group of former staff.

💡 The move underscores the court’s willingness to protect proprietary data in high‑stakes tech disputes, setting a precedent for how companies handle alleged misappropriation during litigation.
