Updated entry-level iPad won’t arrive until early 2027

Apple will postpone the next entry‑level iPad to early 2027, following an October launch of the OLED iPad mini. The company plans two events in October: a smart‑home‑centric show on the 13th and a Mac/iPad event on the 27th, which will likely focus on Macs and the mini, leaving other iPad models for 2027. Leaks suggest the new base iPad will feature an A19 chip, 8 GB RAM, a C1X modem, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, priced at $449.

💡 The delay reshapes the iPad lineup, pushing key refreshes like the Air and Pro into 2027 and altering consumer upgrade cycles. It also signals Apple’s strategic prioritization of higher‑margin devices over the entry‑level segment.

I tested the Lenovo Googlebook 15 — here’s why it’s my favorite

Tom’s Guide reviewer tested the Lenovo Googlebook 15, the flagship model of Google’s new laptop platform that runs Googlebook OS, essentially Android optimized for keyboard and mouse. The 15.3‑inch device features a sleek Cloud Grey chassis and a vivid OLED display, delivering strong everyday performance and tight “Better Together” integration with Android phones, mirroring the cross‑device experience long offered by Apple. Practical AI tools such as Magic Pointer and Rambler enhance productivity without feeling gimmicky. The review notes two drawbacks: the power‑hungry OLED panel limits battery life, and early software bugs in Googlebook OS cause occasional compatibility issues. Priced at $1,150 (or $1,099 at Best Buy), the laptop targets Android‑centric users seeking a premium alternative to Windows or macOS laptops.

💡 It proves Google can deliver a high‑end Android‑based laptop that rivals traditional PCs in design and AI functionality, reshaping the premium laptop market for ecosystem‑locked consumers.

Sunday Reboot: Touch MacBook Pro’s nice, but I want macOS on iPad

Apple is slated to host two October events, the second of which will unveil an OLED MacBook Pro with a touchscreen, alongside an OLED iPad mini. The company’s accelerated schedule follows an unexpected August refresh of the Mac mini and Mac Studio, catching analysts off guard. Rumors suggest the new MacBook Pro will integrate touch input, a feature long anticipated by users who have been pairing iPad Pros with Magic Keyboards to emulate a laptop experience. Apple’s software chief Craig Federighi previously emphasized distinct roles for macOS and iPadOS, but the convergence of hardware capabilities hints at a shift toward a unified user interface. The announcement could redefine how professionals choose between a traditional laptop and a tablet‑laptop hybrid.

💡 A touch‑enabled MacBook Pro would blur the line between laptop and tablet, forcing users to reconsider whether a separate iPad is still necessary for touch‑first workflows.

Will the HomeView be Apple’s first smart home success?

Apple is set to unveil a new smart‑home hub called HomeView on Tuesday, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported. The device runs Siri, features a built‑in display and Apple’s latest A18 processor, and will act as a central controller for third‑party accessories. HomeView will be sold in two configurations: a countertop model and a wall‑mount version. The launch marks Apple’s most ambitious effort in the home market after HomeKit and the HomePod failed to gain significant consumer adoption. At the same event Apple will also refresh its Apple TV set‑top box and the HomePod mini. Gurman added that Apple will announce a partnership with LG to produce a smart lock, thermostat and doorbell, expanding its ecosystem and aim to strengthen position in homes.

💡 Apple finally bundles hardware, software and partner devices into a single hub, giving it a realistic chance to dominate the fragmented smart‑home space.
