Meta Drops Celebrity Voice Options on the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3

The Ray‑Ban Meta Gen 3 smart glasses launched with a $449 price tag, up from the Gen 2’s $379. The new model adds a sixth microphone, extending battery life to nine hours and delivering clearer calls and spatial audio. Design tweaks include smaller camera openings, new frame styles, and sharper video with warmer tones, while frame and lens sizes remain unchanged. Both generations share the Muse AI assistant, which provides WhatsApp summarization and object identification. Notably, Meta removed the celebrity voice options that were available on the Gen 2. Upgrades also feature a customizable quick‑action button, but hyperlapse and slow‑motion video remain. Reviewers suggest first‑time buyers may find the enhancements worthwhile, whereas existing Gen 2 owners must weigh the incremental benefits against the higher cost.

💡 Dropping celebrity voice options shows Meta prioritizing core functionality over gimmicks, forcing buyers to judge the glasses on performance rather than novelty.

Someone’s modded Diablo 2 for VR, and seeing the world through your…

A modder known as “Sergious” (Reddit user Fantastic‑Author2736) has released a fan‑made virtual‑reality conversion of Diablo II. Using the FlatVR framework and optional BodyWalk tools, the mod places the player in first‑person as the Sorceress, displaying health, mana and skill bars on a virtual forearm and letting the inventory appear on a belt and the map in the hand. Gameplay footage posted to Reddit and YouTube shows the classic isometric world rendered from the character’s eyes, with fireballs, zombies and other enemies reacting in real time. All files are hosted on GitHub for public download. The project arrives as Valve’s new Steam Frame headset launches, offering a wireless platform that can run both native VR titles and modified legacy games like this one today.

💡 First‑person Diablo II demonstrates how community‑driven mods can breathe immersive life into aging franchises, paving the way for similar retro‑to‑VR transformations.

TRU Simulation + Training Inc., a Textron Inc. affiliate of Textron Aviation, announced that its Cessna Skyhawk Veris virtual‑reality flight‑training device will debut at the NBAA‑BACE show in Las Vegas. The dual‑seat system pairs an instructor and a student in a shared immersive cockpit that replicates the Cessna Skyhawk’s controls, avionics and flight dynamics. Attendees at the trade show will be able to experience realistic take‑offs, landings and emergency procedures without leaving the ground. The Veris platform integrates high‑resolution headsets, motion tracking and haptic feedback to deliver a training environment that mirrors real‑world conditions while reducing fuel and aircraft wear. The launch follows Textron’s broader push to expand VR solutions across its general‑aviation portfolio for pilots worldwide seeking safer proficiency.

💡 Ground‑based VR training lets pilots rehearse hazardous maneuvers safely, cutting costs and accelerating competency for flight schools.

Snap Spectacles don’t have a Canadian release, but still worth keeping an…

At Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit 2026, a journalist spent 25 minutes testing Snap’s new Spectacles, a standalone AR smart‑glasses model priced at US$2,195 (C$3,107). The device is noticeably larger than previous models, featuring full‑colour displays, gesture‑based controls and no tethered charging puck. During the demo the reviewer experienced an AR overlay that could be navigated by pinching in mid‑air, selecting options projected onto the user’s palm, and receiving visual cues when looking away. Core apps included a map with restaurant guidance, a chess game, and a Harry Potter‑themed wand experience developed with HBO. Wi‑Fi instability prevented use of Snap’s AI assistant, but translation from English to French functioned correctly. Battery lasts about three hours of use. Canadian release details remain unconfirmed.

💡 Snap’s pricey, bulkier Spectacles show the company is targeting enterprise and entertainment niches rather than mass‑market adoption, forcing competitors to justify similar investments.
