You can unlock a Googlebook’s bootloader, Magisk support in the works

Google has confirmed that the Googlebook, an Android-based tablet, now allows users to unlock its bootloader, enabling custom OS installations or advanced app testing. The process mirrors that of Pixel devices, requiring OEM unlocking in settings, then a specific key sequence (Esc + F2 + power). Google cautions most users need not unlock the bootloader. Additionally, Magisk root support is in development, with developer John Wu noting the Googlebook’s suitability for modding and anticipating future tweaks for full root functionality.

💡 The bootloader unlock and forthcoming Magisk support expand the Googlebook’s appeal to developers and power users, positioning it as a versatile platform for custom Android experiences.

The Pixel 11’s HiLight feature is too limited, but I fixed it…

Google’s Pixel 11 series introduced HiLight, a back‑panel array of eight multicolor LEDs that, at launch, could only flash five colors for a limited set of contacts and indicate Gemini voice‑assistant activity. Reviewers note the feature’s utility is hampered by its narrow configurability. An open‑source app called HiLight Studio, now available for open testing on the Play Store, unlocks full control of each LED, allowing solid colors, animated patterns, and quick‑settings toggles. Installation requires privileged access to Android’s lights service, which can be granted via rooting, ADB, or the Shizuku app that bridges privileged APIs without rooting. The guide walks users through enabling developer options, pairing Shizuku with wireless debugging, and linking HiLight Studio, after which the LEDs become fully customizable. Restarting the services after a reboot is the only recurring step.

💡 By bypassing Google’s restrictive default, users can finally exploit the hardware’s full visual potential, turning a novelty into a functional notification and personalization tool.

Android Auto might start requiring Android 11 or later soon, driver reports…

Google is reportedly tightening Android Auto’s operating‑system requirements, with user reports indicating that devices running Android 10 may soon lose support. Currently, wireless Auto mandates Android 11 while wired support accepts Android 9 Pie. Notifications warning of imminent shutdown have appeared on phones such as the Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9, and Xperia XZ2 Compact. Google has not yet updated its support page, but the trend suggests a move toward a unified, higher‑level OS threshold.

💡 The shift forces owners of mid‑generation phones to upgrade sooner than expected, potentially accelerating the cycle of smartphone replacement and affecting fleet operators who rely on older devices for in‑vehicle connectivity.

Honor’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 and iPhone Duo rival is reportedly launching…

Honor is set to launch its first wide‑format foldable in January, according to leaks. The device will feature a 5.5‑inch outer display, a 7.6‑inch inner display, a 7,000‑plus‑mAh battery, and a 200‑MP main camera with a periscope zoom lens. These specifications mirror Xiaomi’s 18 Fold and address the lack of telephoto sensors in Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Apple’s iPhone Duo. The release could broaden the foldable market, which is increasingly favoring wide‑format designs.

💡 The new Honor foldable introduces a high‑resolution periscope camera, a feature missing from current flagship competitors, potentially redefining camera expectations in the foldable segment.
