AI-summarised brief · reviewed before publication

Home Widget 1.10 introduces a new camera mosaic that lets users view all HomeKit cameras from a single widget on the home or lock screen, eliminating the need to open the Home app. The update also adds thermostat control and whole‑room lighting actions directly from widgets, plus native iOS 26/27 widget styles and enhanced Matter accessory support. The free app allows up to three panels of seven tiles, with a $14.99 premium unlock for full features.

Apple says it will flag AI requests for Mac data after Meta’s…

Apple announced on Friday that it will modify macOS to make AI‑agent requests for full disk access more transparent. The change follows complaints that Meta’s Muse AI could read private messages on Macs without users’ explicit permission. Apple noted that while iOS devices sandbox apps by default, macOS allows “Full Disk Access” for certain utilities, and some developers have exploited this feature. The company will add stricter controls, requiring explicit user action before granting such broad access, to mitigate privacy risks.

💡 By tightening AI permissions, Apple addresses growing concerns over autonomous software accessing sensitive data, reinforcing user trust in its ecosystem.

M6 Mac mini review: Excellent hardware hampered by inadequate SSD storage

Apple released the 2026 M6 Mac mini, the first desktop Mac to feature the new 2‑nanometer M6 chip. The compact unit retains its familiar design but gains a 12‑core CPU, a 12‑core GPU, and a dual 16‑core Neural Engine, delivering up to 40% faster CPU performance and four‑times faster AI compute than its predecessors. The base model costs $899, includes 16 GB unified memory, and offers limited SSD storage, prompting concerns about its suitability for AI‑heavy workloads.

💡 The M6’s leap in AI processing positions the Mac mini as a viable entry‑level AI workstation, yet its constrained storage and price challenge Apple’s strategy of balancing performance with affordability.

Apple says it’s tightening macOS privacy controls amid the rise of AI…

Apple announced it will tighten macOS privacy controls as AI agents increasingly request Full Disk Access, a permission originally intended for backup apps. In a developer blog post, the company warned that some developers misuse this access to expose files, mail, messages, browsing history, and even the communications of others without clear user consent. Apple said it will add “additional controls” requiring explicit user action before granting such extraordinary access, though it did not disclose technical details. The move responds to the rise of always‑on AI tools like Meta Muse and OpenAI’s Dots, which have sparked privacy concerns and reported incidents of data exposure. Apple emphasized the need for users to understand the risks as AI agents become more capable and autonomous.

💡 By forcing explicit consent for Full Disk Access, Apple aims to curb covert data harvesting by AI agents, protecting both personal information and the privacy of users’ contacts.

Apple’s Vision Pro VR is incredible technology but is it useful?

Apple unveiled the Vision Pro, a mixed‑reality headset priced at $3,499, featuring dual micro‑displays that exceed 4K TV resolution and high‑fidelity passthrough video that lets users see the real world while wearing the device. Gesture control is handled by an array of infrared cameras, allowing subtle hand movements for navigation without external controllers. Reviewers praised the hardware’s visual quality and intuitive interface, noting it surpasses current high‑end competitors such as Valve’s $999 Vive. Apple frames the product as the start of “the era of spatial computing,” suggesting it could eventually replace a television, computer, and sound system. However, analysts question whether consumers have a genuine need for such a premium, expensive device and whether it can achieve mainstream adoption.

💡 Apple’s gamble tests whether premium spatial‑computing hardware can create a new consumer market rather than merely out‑spec existing VR offerings.

iPhone Duo video reveals size compared to iPhone 18 Pro Max

Apple’s new iPhone Duo features the largest display ever in an iPhone lineup, surpassing the iPhone 18 Pro Max. A side‑by‑side video posted by @thetechchap shows the Duo’s unfolded width nearly matching the Pro Max’s longest side, while its 4.64‑inch height exceeds the Pro Max’s 3.07‑inch width. The Duo’s 6.48‑inch width and 6.43‑inch height are comparable to the Pro Max’s dimensions, yet its folding design allows it to collapse into a more compact, one‑handed form. The comparison highlights the Duo’s screen‑size advantage and portability.

💡 The Duo’s larger, foldable display offers a new user experience that could redefine how consumers balance screen real estate with portability.

Apple says it’s tightening macOS ‘Full Disk Access’ controls due to new…

Apple announced new restrictions on macOS’s “Full Disk Access” setting after reports that AI agents, such as Meta’s Muse, could read private messages without explicit permission. The feature, originally intended to support backups, now poses heightened risks as desktop AI gains broader file and messaging access. Apple will require more explicit user action to grant this level of permission, citing increased threats from autonomous AI agents. The change follows a Wired report of a ChatGPT Mac app flaw that could expose sensitive data.

💡 The move underscores the growing need for tighter safeguards around AI-driven applications that can access personal data, reshaping how developers and users manage privacy on desktop platforms.
