Some Samsung Galaxy phones are having Android Auto issues with One UI…

Samsung’s Android 17‑based One UI 9 update has begun rolling out to Galaxy devices, and users are reporting Android Auto malfunctions. Complaints surfaced on Reddit, Samsung’s community forums and Google’s support pages, describing stuttering playback and complete connection loss. The problem appears limited to a subset of phones, but a pattern is evident. Android Authority tested a Galaxy S25 Edge on One UI 8.5, which worked flawlessly, while a Galaxy S24 Ultra on One UI 9 reproduced the reported glitches, suggesting the new UI version is the trigger. Some users report that disabling battery optimization for Android Auto temporarily mitigates the stutter before the bug resurfaces. No official statement or fix has been issued by Samsung or Google, and the issue remains under investigation.

💡 The glitch threatens Samsung’s push for One UI 9 as a flagship experience, exposing how rapid OS upgrades can undermine core connectivity features that drivers rely on daily.

Google rolling out gradient icon redesigns for Contacts, Messages, and Phone

Google is rolling out a visual refresh for its communication apps—Contacts, Messages and Phone—by replacing the existing icons with new gradient‑styled versions. The redesign follows earlier updates to Workspace and Pixel apps and aims to make the icons appear sharper and clearer on Android home screens, according to the company. The new graphics use a subtle crisp gradient and refined edges, removing the intersecting lines and layered look of the previous set while preserving the familiar shapes. Google says the change is aesthetic; no functionality is altered. The update will be delivered through the Play Store over the next few weeks and is already live in the Google Messages beta, with the icons expected on Contacts and Messages official versions.

💡 A unified icon language strengthens brand recognition on billions of Android devices, making Google’s suite instantly identifiable amid growing UI fragmentation.

Google shuts down a sneaky malware backdoor on millions of Android TV…

Google announced it has severed ties with Videostrong, a manufacturer of certified Android TV and Google TV boxes, after uncovering a built‑in backdoor that allowed the company to sell access to a botnet and distribute malware. The malicious code was embedded in multiple device models, including many Mecool boxes, and used obfuscation to bypass Google’s certification tests, activating after first boot. Google has taken legal action to block the domains and servers that supported the XCPE botnet, banned Videostrong and its subsidiaries from selling any certified devices or software, and is overhauling its review process to prevent similar breaches. The takedown of command‑and‑control infrastructure is expected to cut off at least 10 million compromised devices, though users may still need to replace affected hardware.

💡 By removing a covert supply‑chain threat, Google restores confidence in the Android TV certification and forces manufacturers to meet stricter security standards.

Google will let Android & iOS apps directly integrate Quick Share next…

At the Android Dev Summit 2026, Google unveiled a Quick Share SDK slated for release in the first half of 2027 that will let developers embed the peer‑to‑peer file‑sharing feature directly into Android and iOS applications. The new SDK bypasses the system Share sheet, launching a bottom‑sheet preview within third‑party apps instead of the full‑screen Quick Share UI. Google also announced a dedicated Quick Share iOS SDK, extending the functionality to iPhone users. By integrating the capability at the app level, developers can streamline the sharing workflow and maintain a consistent user experience across platforms. The rollout aims to broaden Quick Share’s ecosystem and encourage broader adoption among app creators.

💡 Embedding Quick Share directly into apps removes friction, turning a system‑level tool into a native experience that can boost cross‑device file transfers. This could accelerate the feature’s reach beyond Samsung devices to the wider Android and iOS markets.

The Motorola Signature 27’s screen is five times brighter than the Galaxy…

Motorola unveiled details of its upcoming flagship, the Signature 27, positioning it as a challenger to Samsung and Google’s phones. The device features a 6.8‑inch Extreme AMOLED Duo panel built with Tandem OLED technology that can reach 12,000 nit peak brightness, far exceeding the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 2,600 nits and Pixel 11 Pro XL’s 3,600 nits. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, paired with 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, UFS 4.1 storage and a vapor‑chamber cooling system. Camera hardware includes a 50 MP Sony LYT‑910 main sensor, a 200 MP periscope telephoto lens with up to 100× zoom, a 50 MP ultrawide unit and an Action sensor. The phone runs Android 17, promises years of updates, and will launch on November 5 with official pricing rumors around $1,800 for the 512 GB model.

💡 Achieving 12,000 nits could make outdoor viewing dramatically clearer, pushing competitors to accelerate their own high‑brightness display research.

Google’s Wear OS ‘status bar’ experiment brings a little more Android flair…

Google is testing a system status bar for its upcoming Wear OS 8 update, according to a post on the Android Developers Blog. The bar will sit at the 12 o’clock position and overlay all app windows, showing the time, connectivity, location and other icons, mirroring Android’s UI. Wear OS 7 lacked such a bar, causing apps to occupy the entire watch face. The experiment, available in the Wear OS 7.1 Beta Preview emulator, includes transition coordination so the bar briefly hides while scrolling. Developers must adapt their apps using Android Studio Canary previews. The change aims to deliver visual consistency and a uniform clock typography across the platform. Google also recently added earthquake alerts to Wear OS, removing the need for a paired phone.

💡 By giving watches a persistent status bar, Google narrows the UI gap between phones and wearables, making third‑party apps easier to design for a consistent glanceable experience.
