Original Tomb Raider devs didn’t love how Lara Croft was “sexualized” in…

The original Tomb Raider developers envisioned Lara Croft as a realistic, androgynous heroine, but publisher Eidos shifted her image toward a highly sexualized marketing strategy. Core Design’s lead programmer Paul Douglas noted the character’s early Latina roots and more modest design, while Eidos capitalized on her provocative appeal to boost sales. The marketing pivot helped launch the franchise, yet critics within the studio felt the portrayal overreached. Recent releases, including the 2013 reboot, have returned to a more realistic aesthetic, though future titles may again exaggerate her look.

💡 The shift underscores how marketing can redefine a character’s legacy, influencing both industry perception and fan expectations.

It looks like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 had fewer active…

Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker shows Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 attracted 19 % of PlayStation users, 17 % of Xbox users, and 4.2 % of Steam users in the week ending 24 Oct, down from Black Ops 7’s 23 %, 29 %, and 1.5 % respectively. The title entered the U.S. top‑10 on all platforms, ranking just below Fortnite on PlayStation. Lower Xbox activity is attributed to the absence of a day‑one Game Pass release, while PlayStation dips may reflect competition from recent Black Ops 1 & 2 ports.

💡 The decline signals a shift in player engagement that could influence future launch strategies and platform partnerships for the franchise.

Indie game website itch.io expands its AI disclosure filter as ‘AI slop’…

Indie game storefront itch.io has broadened its AI disclosure filters, adding a “No AI” option to its search page that lets users exclude titles marked as using generative AI. The platform requires all AI‑generated games to carry a disclosure, mirroring Steam’s policy but lacking a detail on AI usage extent. The update follows a doubling of daily game page creations and a recent purge of “AI slop” files. It reflects the industry’s struggle to manage the surge of AI‑generated titles and maintain quality standards.

💡 By tightening visibility controls, itch.io aims to curb the flood of low‑effort AI games that threaten discoverability and consumer trust, offering a clearer path for developers and players alike.
