Trade secret lawsuit on iPhone’s anodization process now being appealed

Apple secured a summary judgment against Envirodigm in a trade‑secret lawsuit over the iPhone anodization process, but the case has been revived on appeal. Envirodigm alleged that Apple stole a confidential anodization formula disclosed in an August 2013 meeting and used it from 2015 onward. The trial court ruled that Envirodigm failed to properly disclose the formula, a requirement for trade‑secret claims. Apple argues the appeal should be dismissed, while Envirodigm seeks to separate breach‑of‑contract claims from misappropriation.

💡 The appeal tests whether a breach of a non‑disclosure agreement can stand alone when trade‑secret claims fail, potentially reshaping how confidential technology is protected in the tech industry.
