GlobalFoundries to Operate Two New Fabs Under $21B U.S.–Japan Initiative

GlobalFoundries has been chosen to build and operate two new 300‑mm semiconductor fabs at its Malta, New York, site under a U.S.–Japan partnership that can provide up to $21 billion in funding. Japan will supply the capital while GlobalFoundries will supply technology and operational expertise. Each fab will add roughly 900,000 wafers of annual capacity, create about 27,000 construction and ecosystem jobs, and more than 1,000 high‑skill manufacturing positions. The first facility is slated to begin production in 2029, with construction expected to start later this year.

💡 The project injects critical U.S. manufacturing capacity into a sector vital for national security and economic resilience, while the public equity stake ensures American ownership in a key technology asset.

SkyWater and D-Wave Extend Quantum Manufacturing Partnership Through Multi-Year Agreement

Commercial quantum computing firm D‑Wave Quantum and semiconductor foundry SkyWater Technology have signed a multi‑year agreement that extends a decade‑long partnership to develop and manufacture quantum hardware. The deal guarantees D‑Wave continued access to SkyWater’s specialized process engineering, thin‑film fabrication and semiconductor production at the Minnesota fab, which supports both its quantum‑annealing and gate‑model roadmaps. SkyWater’s capabilities have produced several generations of D‑Wave QPUs, including the Advantage2 processors. In parallel, the companies completed a proof‑of‑technology project that applied D‑Wave’s annealing algorithms to optimise SkyWater’s fab maintenance, cutting lot delays by up to 30 %. A second phase will add technician availability and complex constraints to the model. It underscores SkyWater’s commitment to serve multiple quantum vendors beyond D‑Wave in the market.

💡 The extended pact validates a reliable supply chain for commercial quantum processors, accelerating broader adoption.

Siemens, NVIDIA Accelerate Computational Lithography Up to 12×

Siemens announced that its Calibre software now incorporates NVIDIA’s cuLitho GPU‑accelerated library, delivering up to 12× faster computational lithography simulations. The partnership targets the “runtime wall” that hampers high‑NA EUV and curvilinear patterning, such as Inverse Lithography Technology, by providing 10–17× speed‑ups for key workloads. Faster simulations enable more optimization iterations, earlier hotspot detection, and tighter process margins, making full‑chip curvilinear patterning viable for next‑generation AI and memory chips.

💡 By slashing lithography runtimes, the collaboration unlocks deeper design‑time optimizations that directly improve yield and reduce time‑to‑market for the most advanced semiconductor nodes.

New York City and NYU Partner to Launch $284 Million Quantum Fabrication…

New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani, Deputy Mayor Julie Su and NYC Economic Development Corp. President Anthony Shorris announced a $29.2 million municipal grant to New York University for a Quantum Fabrication Facility (QFab). NYU will contribute $255 million for construction and a decade of operating funds, creating a $284 million public‑private venture slated to open in 2030 at 770 Broadway. The 23,000‑square‑foot campus will house cleanrooms, cryogenic testbeds and advanced equipment to fabricate and prototype quantum chips. Over its first ten years QFab aims to incubate 50 startups, serve 50 external firms, and power workforce programs with CUNY and NYC public‑school partners. In return, the city gains three advisory board seats and a 15 percent share of NYU’s proceeds from IP generated on city‑funded gear.

💡 The deal gives the city a direct equity stake in emerging quantum IP, turning public funding into a long‑term revenue stream and positioning New York as a hub for quantum manufacturing talent.

QuDef And The Thought Projects Partner to Bring Quantum Security Platform to…

QuDef, a Dutch quantum‑security firm, and Singapore’s The Thought Projects (TTP) signed a memorandum of understanding to introduce QuDef’s SQOUT quantum security assessment platform to Singapore and the wider Asia‑Pacific region. The partnership merges SQOUT’s threat‑intelligence and risk‑scoring tools with TTP’s laboratory testing of quantum key distribution (QKD) systems, enabling governments, critical‑infrastructure operators, and enterprises to validate the real‑world security of deployed quantum communications beyond theoretical proofs. The collaboration aims to strengthen trust in quantum‑safe solutions across the region.

💡 By combining threat intelligence with hands‑on testing, the alliance offers a practical, end‑to‑end assurance pathway that addresses the gap between QKD’s theoretical guarantees and actual device vulnerabilities, a critical step for secure adoption of quantum technologies.
