Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse review – inspired by great ideas, but doomed by…

Evil Empire’s Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse launches Rose Belmont into a 1499 Paris besieged by Dracula’s minions, blending classic 2‑D platforming with a tarot‑based mechanic that seals enemies. The game boasts intricate maps, music‑linked puzzles, and a sprawling Castle Dracula, delivering familiar Metroidvania thrills. However, technical glitches, clunky controls, and awkward whip usage undermine many well‑designed sections, turning potential excitement into frustrating gameplay moments. The title’s ambition is clear, but execution flaws dampen its overall impact.

💡 The game’s mixed reception underscores how even a revered franchise can falter when core mechanics feel misaligned, offering a cautionary tale for developers balancing nostalgia with modern design expectations.
