Size matters: South Korea spared iPad mini image’s potentially offensive gesture

Apple replaced a marketing image for the iPad mini on its South Korean website after concerns that a hand gesture could be interpreted as an offensive “C” sign mocking male genitalia. The original photo, used worldwide, showed a palm‑up hand gripping the tablet’s thin edge; the South Korean version removes the hand entirely. The change follows past controversies over similar gestures in Korean media, prompting Apple to preemptively adjust imagery to respect local cultural sensitivities.
