Blowout deal: Apple’s M5 MacBook Pro with 32GB RAM plunges to $1,999

Apple’s 14‑inch M5 MacBook Pro, upgraded to 32 GB of RAM and a 96‑W power adapter, is now available at B&H Photo for $1,999—a $420 discount from the standard price. The deal features the 10‑core M5 chip in a silver finish, 1 TB of storage, and a higher‑wattage charger. B&H, an Apple‑authorized reseller, is clearing out inventory to make room for the upcoming M6 models. Similar close‑out prices begin at $1,837. Customers can also find other M5 configurations at discounted rates today.

💡 The price cut signals Apple’s strategy to phase out the M5 line ahead of the M6 launch, offering professionals a cost‑effective upgrade path. It also pressures competitors to match the value proposition of high‑performance laptops.

On OLED MacBook Pro-eve, I have just one question

Apple is slated to unveil a touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro on October 27, a device that would sit above the current 14‑ and 16‑inch models. Leaks suggest an OLED panel, a revised chassis without the familiar notch, and the inclusion of a Dynamic Island, while retaining the M5 Pro or M5 Max processors. The laptop would be the first Mac with a touch‑enabled display, a feature Apple previously dismissed as ergonomically poor. Rumors also hint at a lighter, thinner body, but no performance upgrades over existing models. Critics question the need for touch on macOS, which is built around cursor input, and note that OLED’s visual benefits may not outweigh the higher price and lack of clear use cases for users.

💡 Introducing touch to macOS forces a fundamental redesign of the user interface, and could set a new direction for Apple’s premium laptop line.

Apple releases two new real-life Apple Watch stories, including a life-saving alert

Apple posted two new videos to its “True Apple Watch Story” series on YouTube, showcasing how the wearable can intervene in health emergencies and support weight‑loss goals. The first story follows Josh, who weighed roughly 340 lb and used the Apple Watch Activity Rings to track movement, gradually improving his fitness. The second story features Morgan, whose Apple Watch detected an unusually high heart rate, prompting her to seek medical care; doctors later diagnosed a kidney infection that had progressed to septic shock, and the early alert is credited with saving her life. The clips join earlier testimonials such as Connor’s heart‑health emergency and Amanda’s rare‑cancer diagnosis, part of Apple’s broader campaign that emphasizes real‑world outcomes of its health sensors today.

💡 Demonstrating life‑saving alerts in everyday settings turns the Apple Watch from a fitness gadget into a trusted medical safety net.

Apple wins expanded access to evidence in OpenAI trade secrets lawsuit

Apple secured a partial victory in its trade‑secrets lawsuit against former employees Chang Liu and Tang Tan, OpenAI and io Products. Judge Edward Davila approved Apple’s request for expedited discovery, granting early access to select internal documents, forensic evidence and employee testimony related to alleged misuse of Apple‑originated information. After the parties narrowed the definition of that term, the judge adopted the revised scope and authorized additional discovery into the ex‑employees’ handling of confidential data, their use of AI tools, and OpenAI’s recruitment and hardware‑development practices. He denied Apple’s requests for details on OpenAI’s devices, internal investigations and potential data deletions, as well as two broad corporate‑testimony requests, directing them to later merits discovery. Defendants have 14 days to comply.

💡 The ruling gives Apple a rare glimpse into how its proprietary designs may have fed OpenAI’s nascent hardware push, potentially shaping future legal standards for AI‑driven product development.

New M6 Macs buck Apple’s second wave of price hikes

Apple unveiled two new Macs powered by its M6 processor: an iMac and a 14‑inch MacBook Pro. Both start at the same launch prices as the prior‑generation models, breaking Apple’s recent trend of price hikes across its lineup. The base iMac now ships with a 10‑core CPU and 10‑core GPU, up from the 8‑core configuration of the M4‑based predecessor, while the MacBook Pro gains the faster chip without a cost increase. The announcements follow June price increases that added $200‑$300 to iMacs, MacBook Pros, HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K and iPad mini, and September hikes of $100 on flagship iPhones. Analysts note the unchanged pricing offers relief to buyers, though future OLED‑screen MacBook Pros may still carry a premium significantly.

💡 Holding prices steady after recent hikes helps Apple maintain momentum in its high‑end Mac market and avoids alienating price‑sensitive professionals.
