Long before GTA 6, Rockstar turned a Clair Obscur Expedition 33-sized budget…

Rockstar Games’ 2004 release GTA: San Andreas sold over 12 million copies within 16 months, generating roughly $600 million in revenue from a reported $10 million development budget. The figure, highlighted by a 2006 USA Today article, underscores the massive return on a modest investment and illustrates how a mid‑size studio could produce a blockbuster. The data contrasts sharply with today’s multi‑hundred‑million‑dollar AAA budgets and informs debates on sustainable game development models.

“Horrible day to be a Shion main” – Overwatch fans aren’t happy…

Blizzard unveiled the “Defiled Anthem” Overwatch event, featuring new skins for Shion, D.Va, Kiriko, Reaper and Emre, including a rare “Evolution” skin that changes audio‑visual effects mid‑match. All five cosmetics are exclusive to the Chinese market, a decision tied to Blizzard’s publishing partnership with NetEase, which tailors content for local players. The move sparked a wave of criticism on Reddit, Twitter and Blizzard forums, with Western fans accusing the company of favoring China and lamenting that the China‑only skins rank among the game’s best. Past precedents include China‑exclusive items for Naraka: Bladepoint and earlier Overwatch characters. Players also noted the higher cost and different gacha mechanics in China, where the Evolution skin can cost roughly 1,080 yuan (about $162) and is already being resold for around 670 yuan.

💡 The backlash reveals a growing fracture between global player bases, threatening community cohesion and brand loyalty for a franchise that relies on a unified esports ecosystem.
