AI-summarised brief · reviewed before publication

Best Buy is discounting the Acer Nitro 65 gaming PC to $1,199.99 for a limited week, bundling an AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB GPU with a Ryzen 7 8700F processor, 16 GB DDR5 RAM and a 1 TB NVMe SSD. The 8‑core, 16‑thread CPU peaks at 5 GHz, while the 16 GB VRAM variant of the RX 9060 XT promises smooth 60 fps+ performance at 1440p, a step up from the more common 8 GB models found in most pre‑built systems. Reviewers note the card competes with Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB and that the extra memory narrows the gap to higher‑end GPUs such as the RX 9070 XT. The deal saves roughly $350 off the standard retail price and includes free shipping. Gamers seeking high‑refresh 1440p titles will find the configuration compelling.

MacBook Neo helps Apple soften the blow of global PC market downturn,…

Counterpoint Research reported that global PC shipments fell 21% year‑over‑year in Q3 2026, reaching 57 million units. Lenovo remained the market leader with a 26.3% share despite a 23% decline, followed by HP (18.1%, down 31%), Dell (13.3%, down 25%), Apple (9.8%, down 11%) and ASUS (9.2%, down 7%). Apple shipped 5.6 million Macs, raising its share from 8.7% to 9.8% and outperforming the overall market. The company credited its new MacBook Neo line for cushioning the downturn. Counterpoint analysts said Apple and ASUS succeeded thanks to differentiated portfolios and competitive positioning. Rising component costs, including a 24% jump in 8 GB DDR4 RAM and a 29% increase in 1 TB NVMe SSD prices, suppressed consumer upgrades. Manufacturers anticipate further price pressure into early 2027.

💡 Apple’s premium differentiation with the Neo line proves a viable hedge against a steep market contraction, giving it a competitive edge while rivals wrestle with soaring component expenses.

iPhone Duo 2 will have under-display Face ID

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple is testing a second‑generation iPhone Duo that will incorporate Face ID without a visible notch or cutout, using an under‑display sensor. The original iPhone Duo, praised for its foldable design and under‑display camera, currently lacks Face ID, relying on traditional authentication methods. Gurman said internal prototypes of “iPhone Duo 2” already feature the hidden Face ID system and may also revisit the Action Button, which was removed from the first model. The under‑display camera already enables dual selfie lenses for video FaceTime calls in both folded and unfolded states. Apple’s pursuit of an under‑display biometric solution suggests the technology is nearing production readiness for its next foldable flagship.

💡 Embedding Face ID beneath the screen could set a new design benchmark for foldables, eliminating visual compromises while preserving Apple’s biometric security edge.

Galaxy Watch user wakes up to an awful blister after apparent ‘burn’…

A Galaxy Watch 5 Pro user reported waking with a painful blister after the smartwatch overheated overnight, leaving the device dead and unusable. The incident was posted on the Galaxy Watch subreddit, where the complainant noted the watch was fully charged before sleep and ceased functioning by morning. Similar accounts have emerged for the Watch 5, Watch Ultra 2, and even older models like the Watch 2, with users describing burns, severe skin irritation, and permanent device failure. Discussions differentiate the blistering from typical contact dermatitis, suggesting a more serious thermal event. Android Central has contacted Samsung for comment, noting that standard overheating safeguards appeared absent. The article also references a separate case of a Galaxy S24 phone igniting in South Korea due to lithium‑battery failure.

💡 Repeated thermal failures across Samsung’s flagship wearables raise urgent safety concerns and could pressure the company to overhaul battery management and warranty policies.

Samsung reiterates that Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a hit, and that…

Samsung’s UK newsroom announced that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series has become a “huge hit,” citing a 45 % sales increase in Europe compared with the previous Fold 7 model during the first nine weeks after launch. The company also reported a 260 % surge in online searches for the Fold 8 throughout September, spiking to 460 % between September 6‑12, the same period Apple unveiled its iPhone Duo. Samsung claims the Apple announcement amplified both interest and sales of the Fold 8, especially in Europe where market share is more fragmented than in the United‑States. The data underscores the Fold 8’s strong performance in a competitive market and highlights the cross‑brand impact of rival product launches.

💡 Samsung’s growth in Europe shows the foldable can capture demand even when Apple dominates headlines, proving the segment’s resilience and expanding consumer appetite for premium multitasking devices.
